I have just collected & installed a new machine. When I switch it on all the lights flash, I can\\\'t select a program & I can\\\'t get it to start. Have I got a faulty machine or have I done something wrong?

It said pour 2 litres of water into main wash compartment then run empty hot wash. I poured through the water, switched it on and got flashing lights. Unable to select any wash or drain/spin. So I drained the water out of machine through the front hose. Switched on again & got flashing lights. No mention anywhere n booklet of flashing lights.
