I have a couple of walls in my Victorian terrace property with very thin hairline cracks that show through the paint. One way I could fix these is to use tape, but I find that fiddly to use. Then the other day I noticed I still had quite a bit of Zinsser Ceiling Pro 5 in 1 paint left over from recently painting the ceiling. One of the features it claims is that it bridges hairline cracks, I suppose because it is pretty thick and viscious.

So I had the idea of painting over wall using the Zinsser Ceiling paint, as an undercoat/primer, which should help hide the hairline cracks, and then refinishing with my wall emulsion afterwards.

Is that a good idea, or is there a reason why I should not do this?

Lime plaster?

Shouldn't really use that paint on lime plaster.

Why not use lining paper and paint as an option.

No, gypsum plaster walls.

Yes lining paper is always an option, but not preferable because:
- I don't have experience putting up paper, and would rather not get a decorator in
- the hairline cracks are only in a few places and one wall in particular, so feels a bit overkill to put lining paper on the whole wall (and probably the rest of the room if it looks inconsistent)

was just looking for a quick and easy solution, if such a thing exists!

Run a knife along crack to make bigger and fill would be easiest
Other option is to use toupret flexible filler or go for your own plan with zinsser paint.
