Zoom Mode?

S

Shutpa

I've just discovered an icon on my desktop called zoom mode. I have no idea what it is but when I click on it, I get the message, "Zoom Mode cant be found". Can anyone enlighten me as to what it could be?

Could it be that you had some sort of tool to magnify text etc on your desktop in the past?

Try right clicking icon and select properties. What does it say in the target window?

An awful lot, viz:

Target Type - {BA126AD7 - 2166 - 11D1 - B1D0 - 00805FC1270E}

Start In: This is blank

Shortcut Key: None

Run: Normal Window

Then there is a choice of: Open File, Change Icon or Advanced.

My mouse does zoom, drives me mad, never know what I do to get & then cant get it off.

When you right click and select properties the dialogue box has 2 tabs named General & Shortcut. Your description is from the information in the "Shortcut" tab.

Click on the "General" tab - what info does it give for location size etc.? This should give a clue if the original program still resident on your system.

Another wild guess, did you ever have/or still have a Zoom dial up modem?

Target Type BA126AD7 - 2166 - 11D1 - B1D0 - 00805FC1270E described could be that you created a shortcut at sometime to a modem or network connection.

By the sound of it I suspect that it is just a redundant icon which no longer serves any useful purpose - but you should check it out before deciding to delete

The icon probably relates to the modem then.

The fact that it does nothing and you get a "cannot be found" message suggests that the shortcut may have originally pointed to the installation CD maybe to run diagnostics - although why it should still be on your desktop I do not know

Thought that I had finished with this but just noticed that when I move the arrow over the icon, I get "Location: Network Connections" coming up. Does this throw any more light on the subject?

Yes, the shortcut is pointing to your Network Connections folder

If you double click on the icon it should open the Network Connection dialogue box.

or

Open the folder manually - Goto Start / My Network Places / View Network Connections - you should see entries listing your internet connections. You may find an entry here referring to the zoom modem.

If you get nothing at all then it is a redundant icon which can be deleted

Cant find My Network Places but can see Network. However, when I click on this I get a 'Network' window which tells me (wrongly), that I am not connected to the internet.

I had assumed that you were using Windows XP. Network Places should be on the Start menu probably under My Computer

Are you actually using the dial up modem for your internet connection or do you have broadband and still have the modem installed?

If using dial up you should find Phone/Modem icon in control panel double clicking on that will give you information - if memory serves, its been a long time since I used dial up :)

Are you actually using the dial up modem for your internet connection or do you have broadband and still have the modem installed? Yes we have dial-up broadband.

If using dial up you should find Phone/Modem icon in control panel double clicking on that will give you information - if memory serves, its been a long time since I used dial up :)Tried to access this but a new window appeared asking for an Area Code and a Carrier Code

How can I get an internet connection that is always on?

Ahh...I have only had a little experience of Vista (most of it bad ) so unable to comment on any set up

I am a little confused here you can either have a broadband connection which in most cases always on or a Dial up connection which dials your ISP number to make a connection (and you pay the cost of a local telephone call) - how do you connect?

That allows you to set up a new connection

I believe most broadband connections are always on (not all though) so this suggests yours is a dial up system

Thanks for that Tony. I think that I have worked out where things have gone wrong.and it's all down to having the wrong settings. Will keep you informed.
