Switch terminal markings

A two way light switch can also be used instead of a single way light switch by connecting between wither Com and L1 or Com and L2.
Hint, if the light switches off when the switch is in the on position, swop the wire from L1 to L2.

Alternative marking

Alternative markings may also be used as in this diagram.

How they are wired

Using a junction box:

Notes,
Junction boxes need to be in an accessable location for inspection.
Chock block for the light fitting must be enclosed in fitting or in a suitable enclosure above ceiling which is accessable for inspection. The chock block must not exposed to heat from the lamp.
If a metal light switch is used, connect the earth wire to the earth terminal on the light switch and loop to the back box.

Using a loop in ceiling rose:

Notes,
If a metal light switch is used, connect the earth wire to the earth terminal on the light switch and loop to the back box.

Using Terminal Block (AKA Chock block) enclosed in a light fitting or suitable enclosure:

Notes,
Chock block must be enclosed in fitting or in a suitable enclosure above ceiling which is accessable for inspection. The chock block must not exposed to heat from the lamp.
If a metal light switch is used, connect the earth wire to the earth terminal on the light switch and loop to the back box.

Using Terminal Block enclosed within the light switch:

Dimmer switch

2way-dimmer.jpg

This is a 2 way dimmer switch, it can be used as one way or 2 way
If being used as one way you should use

~ (with arrow) and L1

when changing like for like The ~(with arrow) is the C terminal

Also as this switch is metal you should connect an earth wire from the terminal on the PLATE (right hand side this picture) to the back box for the switch , ALONG with the earth wire that should already be there.

Connecting a single light to an existing lighting circuit. i.e. loft

light2a.jpg

The Neutral and earth wires in the switch should be connected together with chock block.

Connecting a floodlight via a FCU

fcu1.jpg
The drawing says it all, but the cable to the fcu MUST be the same size as that which it is connected to.

That is why the JB has 2.5 t & e running through it and to the FCU, but only 1.5mm t & e from the fcu to the light.
