I was an early adoptor of SM's, so we had the Smets 1 meters fitted, then along came the much more able and compatible Smets 2 meters, providing better data to the consumer. Some energy companies, only provide certain tariffs, to those with Smets 2 meters. I've just asked if my meters could be swapped out, to Smets 2, based on the Smets 1 limiting my choice of tariffs, and they have agreed.

What suppliers do you consider need an SMET2? Octpus?

You would think the new supplier would fix the appropriate meter ?

Not that I was thinking to move, but Tomato Energy, specify a Smets 2, for some tariffs. The Smets 1 has caused me issues with my Octopus Mini, which was supposed to provide me with instantaneous consumption data, it took them quite a while, to get it to produce a very limited range, of very granular data.

Dual band comms hubs give more range for the home network (970ish MHz as well as the standard 2.4GHz) that the comms hub runs for meters and other smart devices and they only come in SMETS 2 so if you have reception issues with the IHD or any other device that needs to communicate with the meters ask for a Dual Band Comms Hub.

All three connections work just fine - The Mini, to the Internet; the IHD, and the mobile connection. It's rare for my bill, or when I download my consumption data, for any to be missing.

Oh, I wonder what my smart meter is, been fitted around 1 year by BG, the IHD Exporting 1.jpg spends most of the day as shown, really a bit useless, and the app is always a day or more behind.

I do have other data available from the solar panel app, but it seems some is direct, and some from a server in China, so I can make a cup of coffee, and return to PC to see the spike where it catches up. It in the main only shows useful data from midnight until 5 am when on off-peak, so not really worried.

The only reason for a smart meter was to be able to be paid for export, and still not being paid. It has worked out well, as now on cheap-rate overnight when I charge batteries and sometimes do washing.

Whilst my IHD connects just fine, it uses a ancient B&W LED touch screen, not even slightly configurable, and pretty superfluous really. The one it is good for, is chacking instantaneous gas consumption. It updates that quite frequently, so provides a good check of the boiler modulating.

For really useful data, I use the Octo-Aid, which derives data from my account, updated every few seconds by my Mini. Octo-Aid, is the very best of the bunch, by a very wide margin.
