Just moved into a new rented flat in Zurich and as is common most of the light fittings have been removed (?!) [previous renter was British] I bought a contactless tester, to check out wiring. We've since had a local sparks check things and fit some new lights, but I was surprised by what I...
In our ensuite we have a dual fuel towel rail and recently the back box cover plate came away from the wall. Upon further inspection the back box is held on as per the diagram below:
A plasterboard fixing (and screw) was holding the back box in place. In addition, the end of the fixing sticks...
I want to install an extraction vent in the ceiling of the shower cubicle:
Is this a done thing/recommended in general?
If I use an inline extractor fan which is installed in the loft as shown above, does this count as a non-classified area (DIY fair game)?
Are there any kits for this type...
What do the most recent regs say about washing machines in bathrooms?
My (2.5m x 2.1m) ground floor bathroom and 1st floor kitchen need rearranging: obviously, the washing machine really needs to be in the bathroom (below the kitchen).
The 2 main trips on the CU are RCD protected.
Thank you...
Hi all.
We've tried everything we can think of but we're unable to take off the cover so that we can change the bulb in our bathroom. Twisting doesn't do anything, neither does pulling, and here's no obvious grooves or screws. Any advice would be welcome!
I have to start tiling my upstairs bathroom and got opposite opinion between sticking hardiebaker or using ditra matting before applying the floor tile.
What your opinion on this and what would be the best reliable way?
Thanks
Hi i'm having an old bathroom ripped out and the room skimmed. Boiler is in the bathroom and the cupboard for the boiler is being built in after it's skimmed. and then the side of the boiler will be where the bath and shower go. so the shower will be attached to side of the cupboard.
I've...
A cluster of 3 led lights, it's good because the bathroom gets very little natural light. But it's zonally conflicted in plan, being sited just outside the outer edge of the bath/shower
It could do with going between the the next pair of joists but this would require extending the cables...
I'm remodelling the bathroom (smallish 2m x 1.7) as a wetroom. I'm replacing the whole floor: 24mm ply, 6mm tile backer board, electrical underfloor heating, self levelling stuff, 10mm porcelain tiles (300x 600). I may be able to lay the whole ply board (apart from the tray former) as one piece...
My towel rail gets too hot to touch. Its electric, no water feed so i assume its water filled. Is there anyway to lower the temperature? I have provided a picture of a screw/valve? Situated on the top of the towel rail. Didnt want to touch it, but is that possibly a way to do it?
Any help...
I'm remodelling my first floor bathroom and lifted the chipboard floor to find a load of small stones. An internet search suggested it my be Vermiculite and that it might not be that good for me if I breath in the dust. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this and if it is dangerous...
Hi All
Helping an elderly neighbour of mine. When she uses the handwash basin in the bathroom (1st floor, back of house), quite a bit of water is leaking out from the exterior pipe that runs into a drain.
I haven't been able to get onto a ladder to get a closer look, just got a few pics from...
Hi,
I live in Glasgow in an old tenement building, top floor (2nd floor). I want to get my bathroom renovated, but I'm concerned about the ceiling and ventilation in the bathroom.
On the ceiling I have wooden planks and believe there is a cavity between the ceiling and loft to aid...
Just started watching the following video, where it is claimed that the plastic bit in the string of pull cord switches is for insulation purposes and thus is a safety device.
I can understand this if true, although is new news to me. Any truth to this, have you heard this before, and is there...
Hi there!
I've recently managed to strip the majority of paint from a flaking and peeling bathroom ceiling that contained 2-3 paint layers in some areas. After stripping away the paint, I can see that the previous ‘painter’ painted over mould in some areas, however filler was added in areas to...
Dear All,
I put ad on RatedPeople to renovate my old en-suite + new toilet/shower in Outbuilding. This tradesman came on 12th July and gave quotation + 5* ratings + reviews + previous work photos. I was impressed and he pushed that he can start now only because he is booked till October fully...
I am looking to install a a couple of niches in a bathroom and bedroom. I have a picture of the type I want but I can't find it.
I tried searching for "bathroom niche" but all I can find are frames, which need to be tiled over. The one I want seems to be a complete unit, possibly oak veneer and...
We suspect that one of the toilets (en-suite) in our flat has been built without building regulations approval about 8 years ago (by previous owners). Our freeholder now understandably requires us to check the works have been done to a good and safe standard, and we’re having to apply for a...
Hi, we have a HiB bathroom cabinet with light, demisting, usb and shaver charger points. All of these have stopped working bar the shaver charging point. Its just over a year old. Any pointers as to what may have failed, seems odd that the shaver point still has power but nothing else has...
Hi I wonder if anyone can help.
I have a problem with my bathroom light which has been fine for the last 4 years.
the lightswitch is located outside of the room (important or not?). When switched on the light activates as does the fan as they are on the same circuit.
Most recently when the...
