I am currently redecorating and the thermostat in my property looks ancient and yellowed. I found a nicer looking one, not too expensive on Amazon and wondered if the current wiring( Black,Brown,Grey and Ground) are compatible and in which way it should be wired. Thanks
Hi all I am just wondering which setup do plumbers/heating engineers like the best out of these 2 systems with CH header tanks in the Loft? - and is one better than the other or do they both work as good as each other , any caveats with either?

Switching from an ESI ESRTP4RF+ to a Drayton Wiser with a Worcester Combi boiler (single zone/one channel)
The current wall plate wiring looks identical to the Drayton Wiser scheme, but just wanted to check if it would be plug n play.
Attached photos of current wiring on wall plate.

Hi, May I seek advice?
House/boiler is mid-90's. I am updating my froststat (it physically broke internally and has been firing up boiler inappropriately) and I have found that it is on a PERMANENT live feed (on voltage checking) despite the boiler switch overriding its effect, (ie fully...
Hi All,
Having a couple of issues with the central heating which I want to clear up before the temperatures drop.
I run the CH via a thermostat. It’s set for 18.5 degrees and in the day it runs absolutely fine, if it drops below, the flame symbol comes on on the thermostat and the boiler fires...
Hello there
Can expert help me with the problem of unvented hot water( mega flow) with two expansion valves and pressure gauge losing pressure only during winter when I turn on the central heating.

Hi all,
I currently have a Y plan heating system that previously had a Hive dual channel system installed.
I had Nest installed recently but it has been giving me problems so I wanted to revert back and as the old wiring was there, I thought it might be straight forward.
The Hive receiver was...
Hello, we are looking to buy a 1970s built bungalow. The neighbour not our semi detached neighbour, an ex plumber, advised he had removed the boiler to the loft and replaced all the central heating pipes as originally they were copper pipes under (within?) the concrete flooring.
A neighbour...
Hi all,
I moved in to a 90s house recently and want to start doing some decorating etc.
The house has microbore piping to the radiators and it is not something that I know anything about really.
Through my father in law (who knows much more about plumbing than me) and a bit of googling, I...
Hi all,
Apologies in advance if I get any terminology incorrect.
I moved into a house about a year ago with a system boiler. I've always lived in houses with a regular/conventional boiler system so I'm still getting my head around how a system boiler works.
I'm looking at doing some...
Hi all,
I need to replace a 3/4" union valve lockshield with a 1/2" on a bathroom heat leak radiator. Usually I bung the header tank, release pressure, and quickly swap the valves over. However, as its an old school heat leak setup I'm unsure if I need to adopt a different approach due to the...
I have two Honeywell 2-way motorised valves (1990 vintage) in my airing cupboard, one for CH and the other for hot water. The CH valve got stuck in the open position. I investigated best i could, took the cover off and managed to shift it by pushing gently in one of the brass cogs with a...
Hi,
Mum had a new conventional central heating system fitted last year, all working superbly but I have a couple of questions.
There is one Honeywell T4R wireless thermostat, and a Honeywell st9400c programmer in the airing cupboard.
The hot water is set to 'Auto' on the programmer, and comes...
I had a new Worcester Bosch 28CDi boiler fitted in my flat recently. It works, but I've noticed a strange thing. Sometimes the gentle humming sound from (what I assume is) the pump fluctuates - the pitch rises and falls every 5 seconds or so. Is this normal? It's quite distracting (sounds like...
Hi all,
Preface; checked and can't find this exact issue on here, but similar to this one where someone suggested 'plate heat exchanger needs cleaned /replaced'. Unlike them, however, the boiler was looked at pretty recently.
Setup:
-Vaillant Ecofit Pure 825
-Radiators all bled and flow...
Hi first time post, and appreciate some of the steps below that have already been taken are not standard procedure but I was wondering if anyone here had an interpretation or advice.

Hi all,
I've just bought a Drayton Multizone Smart Thermostat and 5 of their smart TRVs and looking for advice on the best way to set things up so had a few questions. Please let me know if you need to know anymore about the house and number of rooms to advise best. The boiler is a Main 30kw...
Hi folks,
I’m facing an issue and I’d appreciate your help. I have a conventional (gravity fed) central heating system with a water tank in the loft, a hot water cylinder and a diverter valve in an airing cupboard. My issue concerns my bathroom radiator and when it gets hot. It’s like this...
I have a Potterton Powermax HE 85 boiler, which is about 15 years old. This morning I noticed the boiler was off so I checked the house electrics to make sure there was no trip switch activated - there wasn't.
I am insured with Baxi who are visiting next Thursday to repair and do a service...
