Hi, I'm building a workshop at the top of the garden..it's 6x3.5m. the slab has been poured but due to a mess up on my part it has a 0.5⁰ slope from the back to the front, putting the front around 50mm lower than the back.
It will be a timber framed workshop on a single course of bricks (which...
Over time I've noticed this lump forming in just one area of our floor... First I thought it would be a leaking pipe but there's no piping under that part and our boiler hasnt experienced any pressure drops. I believe this concrete floor was laid down like 30 years ago. Any idea what it could...
So I have started my workshop build today... Finally!
I am knocking down my current garage to make way for a double story side extension on my house so need the workshop to house all my tools and junk.
(See...
In the UK, that is. Easily available in the US and Oz but I can't find the right search terminology to source any in the UK..
To fix sub floor cls, on membrane, to conc. base. I sealed with Sikka rapid dpm and will completely cover with membrane too.
Thank you.

Single leaf breeze (not supporting). I dug a 100sq test hole in the ctr and found conc. below the screed so I figure using conc. blocks will be ok.
Do internal walls require a dpc?
I'm assuming it would be good practice to dig out a channel in the screed and block up off the concrete below...
Hi All,
Ive been advised by my builder to use concrete blocks fro my outer skin of my outbuilding and internal skin/partition walls with ashblocks/ashlite.... i cant find much information on these on the net...has anybody else come across these (or if there is a different term for them)?

Hi!
I'm building a large shed/workshop (6x3.5m) at the top end of our garden. It might potentially have a car in it on occasion. I have read that 100mm should be deep enough. I have dug down to subsoil with a digger as it was on a slope.
My question is 2 fold. Firstly, should I be using...
I treated the conc. base with sikka rapid dpm, then put membrane or damp course under the stud soles. I'll cover the whole base with a taped seam membrane anyway.
I was thinking of masonry screwing a couple of treated 38x63 CLS down flat directly on the membrane at the base of the stud wall to...
Hi Guys,
So i have my trenches dug amd in certain areas due to limited space for the digger the trench is dug a bit wider (80-90cm) - i have some old fence panels lying around.... Will these work to shutter the trench?
Hi,
My house is a combination of suspended (floorboards) floors and concrete and it currently has no central heating. I've worked out a route for the CH pipework which avoids all of the concrete areas except for one room which is an extension.
I have two options as far as I can tell:
1. Dig...
Hi all,
Im about to endevour on a new journey to project build my outbuilding at the bottom of the garden. I have been reading this forum for a few months now researching etc. The site is nearly cleared and i am ready to mark up for the digger.

I am currently in the process of zhuzhing up my garage, we had vinyl rolls covering the concrete floor before. I removed it the other day to be met with little lumps of black charcoal/tarmac looking specks in the concrete. It wasn’t stuck down with adhesive so it's not residue from adhesive...
Can anyone recommend any products they have used to successfully get rid of black staining on stone?
I think it's black mold and Google results tell me to use bleach and a scrubbing brush but I'm hesitant on using any bleach.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Who in UK has a siliconate penetrating concrete sealer in stock? I only need sufficient for a 25M^2 concrete garage floor. So far, all online searches yield suppliers who are currently out of stock.
I’m thinking of something like PS101 which seems to out of stock everywhere.
Suggestions...
I need to attached my ground level timber frame for decking to a sloped wall. How would i do this without making contact and the timber rotting from the rain?
any help would be appreciated
Hi
We have a very old concrete patio. We are extending the garden and the patio area, which is about 45cm below the garden seperated by brick wall, is going to be turfed.
Question is do I have to break up the concrete and completely remove before I fill with topsoil and turf?
Thanks
Hello all
I have a single skin brick wall running down one side of the garden. In an attempt to give my kids more room to play I am going to be extending the lawn/garden against this wall - existing garden is about 45cm higher than the base of the wall. This garden will be extended to be up...
Hello everyone,
There is no mention specifically about SLC over polyethylene paints. The general consensus of leveling over paint is a no no as the adhesion is not there. I have a large area of floor that needs levelling out slightly to get rid of the ridges in the laid concrete. The concrete...

I have typical council house patio slabs and for the past three years have been trying to paint them a dark chocolate brown:
- painted them with masonry paint 2.5 years ago, looked awesome, cheap way to make my garden look nicer vs new slabs!
- following year after seeing...
