Hi all,
Have knocked off all the plaster in the first floor back bedroom of my Victorian semi, to reveal a couple of runs of stair cracks where the bricks have shifted. Obviously these could have been there for decades, so I'm not sure it's anything to worry about.
As to ground conditions...
I have had an offer accepted on a rather boring 3 bed 1950s brick construction house. The house had a rear flat roofed single extension in the 1970s and next to that a conservatory was added in 2000 along with the double glazed windows. It hasn't been decorated in some time!
I have since learnt...
Hi, I'm hoping for some advice for what to do about a couple of ceiling cracks. I'm a bit of a novice on this kind of thing, so thanks in advance.
My bedroom on the top floor of a 1900 terraced house has two cracks which both originate at the corner of the ceiling and an interior wall. They run...
Hi. First time poster, hope you can help.
I moved into this house in Hull 3 years ago and there were some cracks in various places but I lately noticed some which may have been there before, I cannot say for certain.
The house is 1930s build, was flooded in 2007 but a concrete base was put in...
Hi, I have removed some bad plaster and found a vertical crack in the brickwork of the first floor party wall. It looks like there is a plank of wood resting on top of the highest cracked brick at ceiling level. Could this be the cause? Why is this here as it looks like it might go into the...
Hi all,
Hope someone can advise! I have recently purchased a 1900s terrace house and the living/dining room have been knocked through into one open plan room. Upon taking the (many) layers of old wallpaper off, we've discovered two cracks, approx 1-2mm running up each end of the concrete...
Hi
I've lived in my house for 12 years and the current kitchen window before we moved in, used to be patio doors to the garden. The previous owner bricked it up and put a window in. I think he did the work himself.
I have always noticed some missing or loose cement between the new bricks he put...
I purchased a property a few months ago that had an internal garage knocked through to extend a lounge. This involves removing a load bearing wall and installing an RSJ. The work was completed four years ago and has a buildings regulation completion certificate.
When purchasing the property I...
Hi all
I live in a 1930's house. Over the last few weeks we've noticed lots of small cracks popping up in the plaster surrounding the doors and windows within the property. Over the last coupe of weeks, two of these cracks has grown, one is now 4mm and the other around 2.5mm.
This weekend...
Hi Guys,
I'm hoping to repair cracked/chipped sandstone on my windows and coping stones in preparation for painting. Please see the images, there are worse chips on the other face of the house.
My plan was to, wire brush all loose material, brush debris away, fungicidal scrub, use premixed...
I am about to buy my first home, it's a 3 bed semi, built in 1937.
The house has a couple of cracks that are worrying me because this is all new to me.
I only got the valuation survey, and that came back ok. I'm wondering if I should seek a structural engineer to come out and see the house...
I'm in the process of prep'ing a concrete sub floor. I just want to make sure I've done everything correctly before the self levelling.
The concrete has quite a few cracks in it, which are also high points. So I've been grinding these down which has opened them up a bit and they will now need...
Hey Guys! This is my first post, sorry I feel a bit dirty just busting in and asking for help but I know you're good people so...
Just moved into my new house constructed in 1994. I have only just noticed a floor to ceiling vertical crack in the inner block skin wall of the integral garage. As...
Hi I am new to this forum and wondered if anyone could advise me on this.
Am in the process of buying a house located in South Croydon and wondered if these cracks located on the outside wall were anything to worry about? Would they cost a lot to get repaired?
Not had a structural survey...
