Hi all,
I was just prepping my bay window (house is 1960s with cavity walls) for a lick of paint. I removed a metal grill on the front to find a large hole had beed drilled in it, stuffed inside were at least 2 jay cloths... This can't be right can it?
Inside the bay we struggle with damp...
Hi
In my back yard, the concrete is heavily cracked and it slopes towards the house - in particular it seems that around the drains etc there is enough damage to get thorugh to the void space & who knows where else - which I think is getting damp (need to confirm)
Internally, I know there is...
Hello everyone, I have been looking under the kitchen floor in the 1910 house we recently moved to using an endoscope, in order to check out joists etc as there was penetrating damp in two walls when we bought (have since taken steps to address this with additional airbricks, fixed guttering...
There is a bit of damp in the external solid walls of my house where the patio has been built up above the level of the DPC, bridging it. I believe it may have also covered air bricks so the underfloor void is unventilated. I've sketched the current arrangement. I'm considering what would be the...
Hello. I apologise if this should be in a more appropriate thread. I had a look but couldn't find one. Tearing my hair out here about this leak which proceeds from roof into bedroom, down same column to kitchen on one side and dining room on the other. The roof was replaced two years ago and was...
We recently moved into a house that had stood empty for some time, and we're having a lot of trouble shifting an unpleasant musty smell which we're concerned may be a sign of mould. It's the kind of smell you would associate with damp and is quite strong around the entrance hall and living room...
I have a concrete driveway which is too high, see attached images. The drive is quite long (think 4.5 car lengths) and slopes downwards away from the house. We are seeing damp issues in the room to the right of the doorway (see second image). There are 3 waste drainage channels along the drive...
I've recently had an issue with damp next to a party wall where we had a unit pushed up to it. We're fairly certain now it was condensation / lack of air movement. Neighbour has no problems on their side.
The skirting board was rotten, so I've taken it out and was surprised to find a second...
Hi there
I have an outbuilding which I suspect the dud builders had used interior paint on the exterior walls. It’s a double blocked structure with cavity insulation, but I’ve noticed that there has been some damp in the room and humidity is about 77% when I go into the room in the morning...
We've had a problem with damp on this corner of our house, gut feeling it's this brick side-gate post that looks like it would bridge the damp course ... is that likely? We had a damp surveyor round who didn't mention this but I think he just wanted to sell their DPC injection ... he didn't even...
Hope this is the right forum category for this, apologies if not.
Long story short... we had a shelving unit pushed up against a wall in the living room of the house, it's been there between one and two years. Moved it away recently and found a damp patch on the carpet around 1.5 ft long by 1...
Hi All.
I have got some damp issues that needs to be resolved. Based on the damp report the specialist created and my own understanding also. I am a little confused as to what the way forward is. I am always wary of damp companies and wanting to do unnecessary works. The house is a mid terrace...
I decided to finally deal with some blown plaster around a kitchen window, and ended up removing all of the plaster below one of the windows, which came away easily.
Underneath, the brick seemed slightly damp, which is strange given all the hot weather we've had recently.
At either ends the wood...
Hi everyone,
We noticed a patch of damp last year and didn’t get round to doing anything. Eventually got someone to clean roof gutters. We thought would have solved issue but yesterday the vertical patch looked darker and felt wet despite having no rain for a week or 2 now (unless I’ve only...
Hi Guys,
The property in the photo illustrates a plaster-rendered wall with damp appearing to be rising up it. It was plastered about a year or two ago.
Initially, I thought it was possibly just the plaster drying out but quite recently it has now started to show some salts in one place, which...
Hi all, considering buying a 30s semi and noticed a couple of dodgy-looking areas on the walls during our viewing. Would really appreciate a second opinion from anyone with a bit of experience in these things.
Firstly beneath the bay window in the lounge, there is a large area that looks...
Hi, i have a 1930's house. Started getting a white residue line going across my property wall. I was told that my driveway being butted up against the wall is the reason. So i got a drainage specialist for a quote for aco drain installation. He said you have dpc its the two blue bricks above...
Hello all, I am hoping somebody might be able to help with an ongoing issue we have under our upstairs bay window.
The house is a detached 1930s house. We renovated it around 6 years ago now, and this problem only seems to have arisen in the last 3 ish.
Under the bay, we have a number of...
Hi there,
Any help here would be appreciated.
I have recently bought a converted stable, in my living room I have cupboards and a seat against a solid wall (see below). I want to insulate the wall behind the cupboard.
The wall behind the cupboards is very damp and makes keeping the...
Hello, I took out the plasterboard and seen some damp on timbers.. what would be the best solution for this?
Wall then 3 timbers, single wall. Noticed some damp on the other side
