Hi all,
I have recently purchased a holiday chalet that has PVC external walls under the windows. Think very wide PVC door with a solid panel bottom halves.
I am wanting to build a timber framed false wall on the inside as I am having all the internal walls reskimmed. The false wall will be...
Hi all,
I have recently bought a house (1920s/30s) and want to insulate my loft. Currently there is about 100mm of fiberglass between the joists and floored with chipboard. I really need the loft for storage so rather than add extra glass wool I want to use multifoil under the rafters - it looks...
Hi All.
I am constructing an outbuilding office, its not to live in and doesnt need to comply with building regulations. I plan to insulate the floor using 50mm celotex. The walls are solid 6 inch concrete blocks.
I am looking for the cheapest way to insulate it. Any ideas please, explanation...
Hi
I'd be really grateful for help/advice - I'm panicking a bit!
As a bit of background.... I am looking to replace the current loft insulation (fibreglass/rockwool), laid on the loft floor. This has been prompted by a potential problem of condensation on internal walls/ceilings; in our second...
Good morning.
I am looking at making my attached garage more cofortable and with less humidity, it currently runs around 80%.
Garage is 5m x 5m, one wall is pretty mucy all taken up with a double garage door, one wall is the link to the house so I have 2 external walls at 90 Deg to each other...
Hi All,
Apologies if this is roof construction 101. I recently bought an old house and the garage has zero roof insulation. The roof consists of the timber frames, battens, nails & tiles. I would like to add a membrane and insulation without dismantling or redoing any of the existing roof...
Hello,
We have a suspended timber floor, and that suspended timber floor contains an air grill (see picture attached). The grill attaches to a plastic ventilation shaft below the floor which is about 20cm long. It's a bit odd, given that most guidance on ventilating suspended timber floors...
Hi,
We live in a semi detached house built in 1949 which has a double storey side extension that was built in 1996 to add a garage and additional reception room on the ground floor, and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The bedroom and bathroom are above the garage, however the reception room is...
Hi all
Just looking for some advice. I have built a summer house which is cladded with Hardie Plank followed by a breathable membrane. The frame is built with 4x2 and I'm using Rockwall at 75mm for the insulation.
I fixed the cladding directly against the membrane and frame so I want to create...
Hi,
I am renovating a terraced London house. The space is a premium and I cannot take inches. I can't add 10cm and I just want a little extra sound proofing on party walls.
I looked at thin Mass loaded vinyl (MLV), which comes in 2-4mm or Tecsound (2.5mm for 25.2dB)
But I would need to paint...
im finding reclaimed 1.2 m x 2.4 m x 100mm insulation boards online for £29.
it's too expensive.
Does anyone know a supplier or an equivalent technology to kingspan that is less.
Has anyone tried blowing their own closed cell (waterproof) foam and do you know where I could get it.
still...
I'm remodelling my first floor bathroom and lifted the chipboard floor to find a load of small stones. An internet search suggested it my be Vermiculite and that it might not be that good for me if I breath in the dust. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this and if it is dangerous...
Hi Guys,
Any issues with placing 50mm xps insulation slabs externally in the trench below dpc/ground level before backfill? To help with insulating the building? Please see pics.
I have to install the TLX silver multifoil which specified to have 38mm thick batten but impossible to source on my area with only available in 25x50mm.
have you had any issues like that? How can this be solved? The 25mm is to thin and not enough air gap is left to let the multifoil work.
Thanks
After a bit of initial advice, please.
Decided to internally insulate a solid brick outbuilding as it's freezing in winter... in the process will be needing to move and add more electrical sockets etc, going to use said building for general craft/diy type projects.
I had intended to build...
Just started watching the following video, where it is claimed that the plastic bit in the string of pull cord switches is for insulation purposes and thus is a safety device.
I can understand this if true, although is new news to me. Any truth to this, have you heard this before, and is there...
Hi all,
Want to know what sort of IR readings I should be expecting between the case and the various elements (with the elements disconnected of course) of my Electrolux Steam fan oven as in recent times it has been tripping the RCD.:(
I have had it switched off at the local...
I live in a 1960's house, that is constantly way too hot throughout the summer - I know that this is expected during the warmer months, but it's way hotter than it should be (upstairs is ~29 degrees in the evening). I've tried various advice I've found online such as keeping blinds down, whilst...
Hi, I have a 1970s house which has an attached garage with the original roll down garage door.
I added some polystyrene insulation on the inside of the door, and brush draught excluders on the sides.
Its still quite draughty though.
The front half of the garage is single skin brickwork, Im...
Hi all, I'm anticipating the answer is b"how long is a piece of string" but hoping I might get a steer in the right direction...
