Hi,
Last night I lost the lighting for two rooms downstairs (mixture of halogen GU5.3 spots and standard bayonet fixtures. The hallway lights are unaffected, despite being on the same circuit.
No fuses were not tripped and i tested the RCD, with no affect.
Is it possible that the transformer...
I'm trying to hang a pendant in place of an LED spotlight and I'm confused by the wiring arrangement. I'm used to the simple one live, one neutral and one earth setup but this has two of each:
(not the best picture, I know)
I assume it's because it's a) on a dual switch system and/or b) part...

Hi I'm putting up metal celin light and there is no earth, I know if they are double insulated that there is no need for one but on the light fixture itself there is no symbol to say it is double insulated and there is not one to say it needs an earth, can anyone help me if they have had this...
I have just started to learn to use a 2-prong voltmeter. I've been testing the lighting pendants I have around the house, and one is at 20V, whereas the others are at 240V.
Is this usual / is there a reason this is happening?
I have a single fixed ceiling light in my lounge, with a switch.
I would like to install 3 more, running from the same switch. Can anyone direct me to an example circuit diagram, or tutorial of how to do this?
Thanks
Hi
I'm hoping someone could help. I have a horse menage (school) with lighting issues.
The school lighting only seem to work when it's rained but not when it's frosty or dry.
I'm far from knowledgeable but this seems like a bad connection to me.
I noticed that the earth wire and the clamps...
Good afternoon. I'm fitting new metal faceplates to light switches, they have an earth socket on the back, do I remove the earth wire from the housing and attach it to the faceplate or run another wire from the housing to the faceplate and leave the wire where it is.
Many thanks
Hi all
I have bought some of dimmable LED bulbs for two wall lights made by a company called TCP. Each light has two bulbs. They work fine if I fit one bulb, but flicker rapidly if I fit a second bulb in either light, unless they are turned right up or right down. Each light is connected to a...
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone could help me with some ideas.
I live in a basement flat which all considering has a decent amount of ambient light. This is helped by patio doors leading onto a patio area which then has a wall some distance away rising to street level.
Are there any...
As per the image below, the original block has 2 sets of black, one earth and one live. The new light has 3 sets, not 4. I've shown where the original blue cable has come out of the block.
Do I just maintain the current configuration and wire from the existing block to the new block or re-wire...
Hi all,
Just moved into a house with an old dimmer switch in it, that requires a BS646 3A fuse to work. The fuse has gone, so was thinking I'd just put in a modern 1G1W switch. The front of the existing dimmer looks like this.
The wiring at the back (this house has the old UK wiring...
Hi folks,
Had a spark around recently and he was advising we replace the lighting in the kitchen. These are old round recessed lights with little transformers above. Transformers and bulbs have started to die, housing is looking rough, and he's suggesting replace them with LED alternatives that...
So I am replacing my kitchen light and I am faced with this!
What's going where here then? It's a late 70s house.
Thought it would an easy job but I'm confused! Any ideas?
Thanks a lot people
Hi,
Have recently moved into a place and need to replace some AU-GUF4011 bulbs. Unfortunately the main part of the housing is still in the ceiling but the clips with the springs that hold the bulbs in place are missing. Does anyone know what they're called or where I can buy replacements?
Thanks
