Hello,
I have a new build property with detached garage and tarmac drive (slopes down and away from garage door). I am looking at improving the finish of the tarmac to the slab on the garage.
In short, the detached garage has a concrete slab which finishes inline with the brickwork. However...
Morning all and happy new year, new this out of the way here is my question.
We want to convert our attached garage into a living space. The garage floor is 100mm lower than the inside floor, would it be possible to put a course of brick across the doorways (will have to have new shorter doors)...
Hi,
what sort of screed do I need to be safe from bounce wrecking my limestone flags, laid on block and beam 3 feet above garden level
I have a block and beam patio about 2m x 6m with a 4m radius quarter-circle on the end.
Most of the beams are 2.3m or shorter.
I plan to lay limestone flags...
I'm having an extension done and my builders are saying that they will screed the floor after completing plasterboard and skim. They say "the last layer which will be the screed will be fitted after the plaster boarding and skimming as this is common practice".
Is it really common practice...
Hi. I had someone put down a self levelling mix on my workroom floor in the basement on 1st April 2019 following a successful tanking job which I did myself. When I first saw the finished job I was bit surprised that there was a swirling pattern on the floor with some parts clearly cement grey...
Hi,
We have had an extension built and are having the layout of the house completey changed so thought it would be a good time to install underfloor heating. I'm a boiler guy by trade but have never installed UFH but it doesn't seem too complicated.
Firstly I assume that in the new extension...
Hi, 4 days after applying stopgap 300 slc to floor long hairline cracks appeared. Is this usual. Mix was correct and cracks are not related to trowling or batches.
Levels/ depth vary from 3 mm to 10 mm
Any ideas or is this usual.
Thanks
Hi,
I've just poured the concrete slab floor base in my ground floor. I'll be putting 100mm insulation + UFH pipes + 75mm Screed on top of this.
There are a number of internal timber stud-partitions that I need to put up on the ground floor - Do i need to put these up before the...
Hi,
I have a bit of a conundrum with how to tackle my floor.
I have a large kitchen/diner/utility on the gound floor - approx 30m2
This part of the house was renovated and extended about 15 years ago, when doing so the previous owners had underfloor heating put in, and then tiled with...
Hi there, first post here!
So I've just bought a reposessed house with what I thought was not much work on it.
The garage for some reason doesn't have a proper floor on it. I've been trawling the internet with what to do, and just want to make sure I've got it right.
Is the process a layer of...
Should a strip of the existing screed be cut back down to the concrete base before building the new blockwork up, or just build the new blockwork up on top of the screed?
We've had to replace all the floors in our house, as part of a renovation. They have been constructed using 100mm insulation and there is UFH laid within new concrete slabs. However, there is no top screed, just the concrete slab itself on which to lay the final flooring. My concern is that the...
I have been advised that screed is a good solution for a 26m floor which is uneven in one of my properties. All part of the underfloor heating work.
Usually, I let the builders just get on with it as I am no DIY guy.
I am a tad curious before I allow that.
Anyone had experience with new screed...
Hi,
I'm building an out-house - can the internal floor level be lower than the external DPC Level? i.e. Screed come to lower than the DPC brick? Looking to try and get some more internal height - will this cause any damp etc. issues?
Hello to all!
I am planning on casting a concrete floor that I will then polish as the finish. I want it to have a white marbled effect. The plan is to use either white emulsion or white powder paint, mixed entirely with the sharp sand and white cement, then to add a small quantity of grey...
Hi All hope someone can help! We intend to screed the ground floor of our house at the weekend. With regards to the kitchen, do we screed upto and lay flooring to the kick boards or go slightly under? Also do we need any underlay for LVP click flooring? Thanks in advance!
Hi Guys,
looking to tile my new kitchen floor, however, have come across a hickup, There is a very large hole in the concrete floor from wall to wall which has collapsed slightly. I don't know why this has happened though my suspicion is that the builder who did my extension years ago knew...
I have a bit of a situation at the moment whereby I was due to have some Amtico laid for me a few weeks ago. Having spent months trying to locate a fitter, the agreed date finally came around. However, for one reason or another, the fitter wasn't able to lay the flooring during the agreed time...
Hi,
We have a large village hall that we've installed UF heating in - wet system, covered in 75mm concrete screed. We don't have the sufficient drying time so looking to put down a liquid DPM ahead of an engineered timber floor (all flooring, underlay etc is UF heating- compatible).
We'd been...
I recently pulled up the screed from my floor because it was cracked and damaged from damp.
So I need to replace the screed, the screed depth required ranges from 25-40mm (concrete floor is not entirely level).
I've taken some pics so you can get the idea:
Here, you can see the depth of the...
