hi,
I am renovating an old house which has a mixture of brick and timber stud walls with Lathe and plaster. Some day, I might like to do a loft conversion. To do this I'm pretty sure I'll need the stairwell to be a 'protected enclosure' will all walls having at least 30min fire resistance.

Hi. I'm re-doing my bathroom. I removed the 660mm long breeze block wall to the right of the entrance door. Then I changed my mind about something and I need to put in a wall again, but this time I feel it's more convenient to put up a timber stud wall.
This wall will become one side of a...
We’ve been working to insulate the eaves / void area of my semi detached 1970s dormer. The area won’t be used for storage so I’m insulating the dwarf/stud wall and 1st floor/ground floor ceiling (rather than the rafters).
The wall is foil faced plasterboard on 75mm studs. I understand that the...
I am about to start making a loft bed (to fit single mattress) and need some advice about attaching it to the walls. The bed will be in a small extension room. The size of the space allocated (100x190cm) means I could potentially attach it to three walls but wonder if two will be enough. There...
Hello
I'm trying to mount a 42" LG TV to my plasterboard wall.
I have bought this bracket which has 3 holes for mounting in a vertical arrangement directly into a single stud...

So i've been a bit of an idiot. I have had a room tiled, with electric underfloor heating underneath. I totally forgot to account for the fact that a stud wall was going to be built on top of these tiles. The stud has to be screwed into the tiles and I have no idea where the cables are!
Saying...
We've finally agreed a price to get or garage roof trusses replaced with rafters which is being completed next week. But this has come out quick a bit more expensive than originally planned so i am looking to insulate and board up the garage myself.
I have read lots of posts about the best way...
I'm fitting a new door in a timber stud wall. the wall is non load bearing as it infills a space which was previously widened and later closed back up again. there is an existing RSJ I beam above the stud wall carrying the load from above. my door will be around 150mm below the RSJ.
I want to...

We have a large timber framed dormer. It is made of standard 4"x2" studwork and rendered onto lath (which is a bit the worse for wear - but that's another job).
Anyway, I'd like to get some insulation in as the internal plaster is off at the moment. So what is the best thing to use. I was...
Hi, so the french cleats on my kitchen units are not going to match up with the studs on my kitchen wall. I am going to cut out the plasterboard and replace with ply and screw the units on to this. However it is just hardboard backing on the units, will screws through this in to the ply hold?
I would like to put a couple of shelves on a stud wall to support approximately 12kg of weight (an electronic keyboard plus a few musical effects units). I wanted to use an upright & bracket style of shelf, with a small pair of uprights and the 2 shelves approximately 30cm apart vertically.
The...
