Hi all
We're moving into a new victorian terraced house that needs a lot of work - double glazing, heating, floorboard etc - but the main thing we want to do is a kitchen side extension. From the sale of our previous house, we will end up with around £75k and the idea is to make sure we get the...
I've removed the old lathe and plaster from my Victorian walls and plan to batten out and use 12.5mm plasterboard. Can I insulated between the battens? What's the best material to use?
Hi, I have a Victorian toilet (house c.1890) that I'm looking to replace, mainly so I can fit a sink waste like this into the soil pipe as no easy way to exit the sink waste...
Hi,
I'm missing the key for a mortice lock on a Victorian door which has a knob with rose etc.
I removed the lock, it's very large and thick steel with some brass parts, could be original.
I think the case is welded, any way to replace part of the inside to allow a replacement key to work...
Hello any help would be really appreciated!
Just bought a mid terrace Victorian approx 1900
Removed laminate flooring today and revealed damp concrete hearth, picture attached, the damp has spread out from it, possibly from being trapped under the laminate, and the floor board nearest the left...
Hi,
Need to fix down some wooden floorboards - about 20mm thick.
Believe I need 50mm screws but says online avoid where the shank is fully threaded.
Got some with smooth shank at top but it was 20mm of smooth so took back and swapped, now there is no smooth part.
Apparently the fully...
Hi. I bought my Victorian end-of-terrace house 2 years ago and am still trying to solve a problem with dampness in the subfloor void. As you'd expect, this has caused a lot of damage to the timbers, mainly wet rot and wood beetle damage.
Photos are here...
Can anyone tell me how far, very roughly, the concrete generally projects from the face of an underpinned wall please?
Been digging a small trial pit to expose the foundations of my neighbour's Victorian flank wall, as I need to build some new footings adjacent to this, and have exposed some...
Hi, we moved into an old terrace 3 years ago that had been renovated by the previous owner. Most of the plastering is quite good except in the hallway and up stairs, we thought some sanding would solve the uneven walls......We now know why the walls are so bad, we can see wall paper pattern...
Hi guys (photos attached)
I recently moved in to a Victorian terrace and I'm in the process of giving it a bit of a face lift. This includes replastering the hallway.
In the hallway there is an arch, which had been hidden away behind a stud wall, and the arch itself was covered with wallpaper...
Hi,
We're currently renovating a victorian terraced house. We've just knocked a hole into our chimney breast in our living room- expecting a nice square shaped chimney inside. It looks deeper and squared off on the left hand side and seems to be less deep towards the right, like the back wall...
Hi All,
We've just bought an old Victorian house and are in the process of doing it up. We've lifted all of the original floorboards (took a long time - hoping to relay them) and now want to insulate/sound proof.
A few questions about putting the insulation in.
1) We've read that you want to...
Hi there,
We have a 1900 Victorian terrace whereby the floorboards are not in good condition (we sanded them when we moved in and they are structurely sound) but a mixture of 1900/1950 and a few chop outs from previous owners etc.
We like the exposed flooring and therefore would either like to...
