Hi Folks, I as ever need a little guidance to enclosing the exterior steps to my basement. There was a rickety roof with fencing panels for the sides, the roof has rotted and in a race I pulled it all down before it fell down, well it could have been a dead heat.
I do not know where to start and...
Hi,
So I've recently moved into my new property and one bedroom has horrible textured walls.
I know the easy answer is a skim coat, but I cant afford a plasterer and am uneasy on trying it myself for the first time.
The walls are of solid construction in my 1920's midterrace house.
Would...
Moved into a new build
Issues with a few walls not being straight affecting the appearance of the fitted units and doors hanging from the those units.
Is this something we can get into the developer about?
Can anyone help me with this? The online calculators are pretty basic and don't really do the job.
Am in a reasonably prosperous town in Wales. Have had prices of 1.5k and 2k?
Any help would be appreciated.
5x4x2.3m room.
How much is reasonable to pay for:
A) 2 coat skim on pre boarded TE...
I am painting the walls in my garage and there are metal bars fixed to the walls in various places with circular holes in. Are these supporting the walls or can they be removed? See pic below.
Thanks
Hi everyone, this is my first time posting for advise online so fingers crossed I get a good response!?
I am currently going through the process in buying a new house.
The house was built in the 1930s and extended on the pack in the 70s, extending the sitting room, kitchen and master bedroom...
I made the mistake of getting a small amount of Danish Oil on a wall when finishing a tabletop. The walls are freshly painted vinyl emulsion, and quite washable so I tried washing it off before it set. But this just seemed to spread it out further and further!
I've now tried painting over it...
The chimney breast in my kitchen has efflorescence and bubbling paint in the lower quarter. This is because the open/uncapped flue was un-vented at the bottom which meant sitting moisture.
I have since installed a 9" hit and miss vent to promote ventilation from bottom to top.
Does anybody...

Previous owner had an extension built, but when they removed part of the garden wall they didn't bother to put a pier at the end the gate was fixed to.
So, over a couple of years the gate worked a couple of the bricks loose. Wall now needs strengthening so the gate can be re-hung, allow for...
I am looking for a bit of advice around our garage roof and structure in general.
We have a larger than average sized single skin detached garage at the bottom of our garden which currently has an asbestos roof which we are looking to remove. (I know un-disturbed this is ok, but this is just...
Hi everyone,
I REALLY need some advice on drilling in my house. We live in an ex council house which has absolutely nightmareish walls.
Basically they are made up of concrete and big stones and rocks so when you drill into them, if you hit a stone you can't go any further or the drill veers...
Hello there,
I know this is something that is asked very frequently, but I have a question about possible asbestos. It's something that has recently come up in conversation, and I am hoping that somebody here may be able to tell me that I am talking nonsense, and what the walls are actually...
Hello,
I am working out if the job of replacing sagging chipboard flooring with new chipboard or plywood is beyond me or not. Not very handy with real stuff as spend most of my time fiddling with computers.
My house was built in the late 80s and some of the flooring is starting to sag a bit...

Hi, I am new to the forum.
I have very little DIY Experience but I have just inherited a 1920's semi detached so trying to fix it up.
This room once had damp/mould I think due to lack of ventilation.
I have kept it ventilated for a while now but when I came to strip the wallpaper. The plaster...
Hi All,
I have a concrete floor which is pretty uneven, full of steep local dips and rises of more than 12mm, and far from level. I will be levelling it with latex or something, as it needs to be approaching SR1 for the floor covering.
Some of the floor is newly laid (replacing excavated bit)...
Me and my fiancé have just bought a house and we're thinking about some DIY improvements. A friend of ours suggested putting up coving in the lounge but I started looking into it and I'm just so confused.
I've watched a million videos on how to actually put it up and that. But how do I know...
Some general guidance please. To the rear boundary of my garden is a 1.8m high concrete block wall which is on the other side of the boundary line i.e. it is my neighbor's property and he insists that it remains untouched. It's footings are circa 200mm deep. I don't know how wide the footings...
