Might be worth checking a well known online auction site. You often find dealers selling new stock there, and you could get a higher spec one for the same price as the one you were looking at.
However, make sure that -
- the VAT is included in the final price before you bid/buy
- the laptop is not reconditioned (as many being sold there 'as new' are actually reconditioned stock)
- it comes with a warranty
I would agree with Spark123 - 256Mb is a bit low these days for the demands of modern programs. However, it will all depend on what she is using the laptop for.
Word processing, spreadsheets, etc - 256Mb more than enough.
Music editing - sufficient, but will be a bit slow.
Gaming or photo editing - get as much RAM as the computer can hold
If you need to speak with someone for advice I would recommend that you go to a little computer store. My experience (although I am generalising) is that many of PC World staff are not very clued up
