I would agree with Spark123 - 256Mb is a bit low these days for the demands of modern programs. However, it will all depend on what she is using the laptop for.
Word processing, spreadsheets, etc - 256Mb more than enough.
Music editing - sufficient, but will be a bit slow.
Gaming or photo editing - get as much RAM as the computer can hold

It would be if you had the full 256MB after loading XP, drivers, AV and AS apps. and sharing a bit with the video sub-system. I've seen systems with this kind of specification die when something like NAV2007 is thrown at it.

However, if that's your budget, it will probably do the job. I would upgrade the memory to at least 512MB though. It will make all the difference.

Slightly better but you can easily get a better spec laptop new with 12 months guarantee for less. Did you win it?

Your post was made at 12.25am and you said your missus was watching the item, it was won at 1.06am. Your diy name is libby lou lou the winner's id on Ebay was chelkee - yep I re-checked the link you gave to the ebay sale - please tell me how I should have known that it was you that won the item? Now please explain the rolling eyes? I've tried to help you here (as have a few others) and you come back with sarcasm. Excuse me while I roll my eyes for a minute
As I tried to explain to you, you have spent more on a second hand laptop with a spec lower than that of a similar priced or even cheaper new one. Merry Christmas.

I noticed that the winner, chelkee, had bought another Sony Vaio Laptop PCG-9P7M, for £285.00 , on 19-Dec-06 from samtiff1 and has feedback already.
