Working in west London today. I needed some shellac based stain blocker. From memory, I last paid £18 for the Smith and Rogers Blockade in my local Leyland SDM back in 2020. It was about 20% cheaper than the Zinsser BIN. Today, I needed more. LSDM now no longer sells Blockade and are phasing out BIN (according to the guy in store), but only selling the BIN in the meantime. I had to pay £30 for 1L of BIN.
I feel like I have been mugged off. Screwfix is £23 for 1L of BIN.
There is something very wrong when your decorators' merchant of choice is more expensive than a company of the likes of Kingfisher group (Screwfix, B&Q, etc).
Sorry about the rant---- nah, not sorry.... ever since LSDM went from being independant to being owned by the (Irish)
Grafton group, the same people that own Selco, the prices seem to have creeped/ramped up. (BTW, my mum is Irish).
I will keep my trade account- primarily for tax/receipt purposes, but I need to become more proactive and preorder products online from other more reasonably priced companies.
/end of rant.
Ohh.. maybe not... Last week I purchased 3.5L of 2K filler. It was discounted down to a reasonable price, but the store omitted to mention that it was past/nearing end of life.
Hey Leyland SDM, if you want to keep your regular customers, treat them with respect. I understand you charging massive premiums for things like plumbing fittings, you are a one stop shop, but when your paint prices exceed DIY sheds, I will turn to those DIY sheds, and the cheaper companies online.
