We just bought a house which has a very old Vaillant Turbo Max 242 installed in 2005. I recently acquired a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi 30 from my parents who used it for two years and has been stored in a dry, cool place on its back since. I am sure that like for like the latter is a better and more efficient boiler but will that fact it has been sitting for ages and the cost of installing it make it not worth the hassle? Our current boiler takes an age to get the hot water around the house and is costing a lot of money to run so will installing the Worcester be worth the install costs which I assume would be £300-400 but really have no idea.

What do you think, worth a punt or a bit of a waste of time?

Probably not worth it TBH, I think you might struggle to find a plumber interested in doing it…..a good plumber would want to powerflush the system, fit a brand new boiler, commission it and hand it over with a 7year+ warranty.

Thanks to you both. I fear you may be right about this but worth asking in case i got some support. I will try a couple of fitters but my fear is that they won't want to touch it.

Some Worcester’s fans fail for fun, especially if they’ve been sat. Maybe you could utilise the boiler for spares or sell the boiler and or spares on eBay?

TBH if the boiler was in excellent condition then installing may not be an issue but there couldn't be any warranty or guarantee that it wouldn't fail within days of going in. The pump could be an issue, given it's been wet and then dry - they can seize up - and as suggested the fan too. These items aren't cheap.

In essence you lose the whole point of putting in a brand new guaranteed/warrantied boiler.
