Insulation cannot prevent freezing of static water in a pipe, it can only delay it.

If some heat is bought to the insulated section by flowing water and the quantity of this heat is greater than the heat loss through the insulation then the water will not freeze as long as it is flowing.

For sure i guess it depends on ambient temps before the water freezes. The water will be flowing regularly without fail.

No my uncles place is near the south coast temps here even in the coldest winter months have occasionally dropped to below freezing. In an insulated pipe which will flow in regular intervals i am optimistic this will be a viable solution. Additionally this will feed a cold water storage tank, so in the advent of a few days frost the tank will be good for this period also.

And no ffs the tank will be integral to the building therefore insulated, before you start insisting that will somehow freeze and crack the building or create a sinkhole and suck the whole of the UK into it and ill get the bill for filling it in.

Remember the last time you commented on a thread all you could come up with was reasons why i couldn't can't wouldn't be able to, oh no some pedantic observation about something i can't even want to remember. I like to approach with a glass half full and not accept 'you can't' that's a red rag to me, i turn that into positive energy and work out how i can. Try it sometime.. it makes a difference.

My mate has a Villa halfway up a hill in Sardinia. The water flow/pressure to the Villa is terrible but that’s the norm out there along with the supply not working for a day or two. He has a couple of very large 1,000 litre (maybe bigger) storage tanks in his cellar that are filled slowly by the trickle he receives. When you use any tap, an electric pump starts up to pump the water from the tanks to the taps, toilets, washing machine and showers and gives a reasonable pressure/flow. He has a kitchen but he also also has a log burner for his heating with a hot plate for cooking small meals on. Mind you, I don’t think it gets as cold out there as it does over here.

Spoke to manufacturers apparently offers 30hours protection @ -12c . We don't have temps that often here, let alone for days, plus the flow will be regular daily.

I think it'll work, as we have similar feeding some portacabins at work for years without trouble, although its pretty ugly, not the sort of thing i'd want to see running down my garden!

Appreciate your thoughts, indeed i concur there. Going to chop a shallow trench and bury along the border (as long as that doesn't prolong freezing effect as opposed to above ground otherwise the border is full of tall ferns etc.)

A simple solution to prevent freezing is a trace heater wire. When low temps activate the power it provides a small heating power to prevent the water freezing.

Got out of bed the wrong side? You my friend have absolutely no clue what you're going on about. I've already had confirmation from the local forester carving a 1m deep channel with a 30cm bucket will without question damage at least 5 mature trees, this is a survey i know i would have had to undertake anyway so ive paid 'PAID' up front to understand the options i have.
And one company i spoke to about re 'above ground solutions' mentioned theirs was recently used in a similar application to mine by a local council for the same reason, to route a supply to a public area without disrupting the tree roots(yes he has supplied details for me to refer to them).

So i 'can't be bothered' about the trees and just cut through the roots instead just to satisfy moaners like you that i am 'not paying enough' for the right job?
