Hi Guys,
Im hoping one of you guys can help me out.

Im having my plasterer/ tiler come over tomorrow to fill in all the areas where my plumber has run all the water pipework in my downstairs shower room.

I read that the 16th edition required you to take the earthing for the pipework from the lighting

I have forgotten to get in my electrician to come in and earth the pipework.
Upon further reading and speaking to a guy in B n Q, you are no longer required to have to earth your pipework under 17th edition.

Am i correct in saying this? Can my tiler/plasterer go ahead with bonding all the walls and potentially start tiling?

thank you again

17th edition requires that all electrical items in the bathroom be protected with RCD's.
this negates the need for equipotential bonding providing that it can be shown that all of the metalwork ( pipes, rads, bath etc ) is essentially connected to earth via the pipework ( ie main water bonds and cross bonds at the boiler etc.. ).

(ok so this is over simplifying it and you need to ensure that the electrics in the location also comply with the requirements for automatic disconnection ).

if you do not have all of the curcuits in the bathroom protected by RCD ( as you may not have for pre-17th edition wiring ) then you need suplimentary bonding...

Are all circuits in that room protected by a 30mA RCD? Lights, shower (if electric), towel rad etc?

Are all extraneous-conductive-parts adequately bonded back to the main earthing terminal?

and the 3rd condition that you MUST satisfy to omit supp. bonding.?

If the only electrical circuit is the light ( on the ceiling ) then does that really have to be protected by a 30 Ma RCD ?

as well as a light fitting would,nt the op install a shower/fan light or fan to remove condensation
