Most of what I've read indicates that 64bit Windows 7 will struggle with only 2GB of RAM yet such as my Athlon x64 motherboard have a maximum RAM capacity of 2GB.

I presently still use XP. Moving up to x64 W7 would probably be too sluggish ?

Windows 7 = As I type I have 5 tabs open on firefox, outlook open and another basic file programme + virus checker.

1.6gb memory in use.

You might notice some lag when switching from a memory intensive programme back to the desktop (such as a game), but you will get away with 2gb for basic use.

I have never encountered an Athlon 64 board with a 2GiB memory limit. Not a one.

E: Oh, then again, I skipped the fundamentally pointless S754 boards. Poor soul..

Perhaps fundamentally pointless but they do what I want them to do, I have two PCs with the same board.

Mine is the GA-K8VM800MNF from Gigabyte although to weight your opinion, the SATA doesn't work.

I tend to use the yardstick 2GB RAM=32bit Windows
Greater than 4GB RAM = 64bit Windows

In between - your choice!
