coupler and a male bush.

simply because it's easier to remove the backbox if you ever have to change it.. broken lugs, changing to a dual backbox, single to double etc...
 
Bush and coupler or flanged coupler.
A lot of bushes these days are so thin they are just big enough to cover the knockout hole.

If I was too use a Female bush I would still use a galv locknut each side of the box.

Also have used coupler, nipple , locknut each side and a female bush, nice strong connection on surface work in warehouses.

Helps prevent where the trolleys hit the switches and the bush pulls through the knockout,leaving the box hanging by the wires.
 
I wouldn't trust female bushes nowadays anyway, some of them are sharper than the conduit end they're supposed to be protecting against..
