JohnD seems to have a short memory

Bent cucumbers and curved bananas were banned by an EU dictate...... I assume the regualtion was removed. But it still meant a lot of food was destroyed, it could not even be sent to starving people as food aid.

A majority of EU member states, including Britain and Ireland, have voted to reform rules like EC Commission Regulation No 2257/94, which caused international ridicule by stating that all bananas must be "free of abnormal curvature" and at least 14 cm in length.

Under the present regulations, Class 1 cucumbers must be "practically straight" and be bent by a gradient of no more than 1/10.

Produce that does not meet the minimum standards can not at present be sold as second-class, meaning many edible items are thrown away by farmers.

Imperfectly-shaped fruit and vegetables may now be back on supermarket shelves by 2009.

43 is seen to be the tipping age for remain/ leave.

Seems about right. Younger ones think that they know all, even without the benefits of significant life experiences. As you get a bit older, you realise that you didn't really know it all; still don't (JohnD excepted), and start making wiser choices as a result.

Johndunce your missing the point had the old ones not fought the nazis England would have been invaded by the Germans.
The young ones would probably then be speaking german and enslaved like other conquered countries and not be in a democracy where they could vote.

shame on Bernard and the Telegraph for spreading false smears.

Yes, but the EU's pathetic vacuum cleaner rules suck - or not, as the case may be.

It's not me, but woodbine who spouted the vacuum cleaner nonsense.

Yes, but the EU's pathetic vacuum cleaner rules suck - or not, as the case may be.

And you who spouted the banana nonsense.

FACT: The EU legislated on the maximum wattage allowed for domestic vacuum cleaners. Sorry if you struggle with facts, JohnD.

However, it's not really about domestic appliances. The argument is over the EU's obsession with undemocratic meddling in our private lives and wanting to micro-manage every aspect of them. One of the lesser reasons why The EU is soon to be history in The UK.

Really enjoying just how sore the losers are! :ROFLMAO:

Hitlerist woodbine trying to weasel away between effectiveness of vacs (suck) and efficiency (watts)

I suppose he's pretending he hasn't read any of the links provided to reduce his ignorance.

"Sir James Dyson tells us that he could make a machine just as effective as the 2,000 to 3,000 watt models being “banned”, using only 700 watts."
