Hi.

Mater has a Golf and the fuse for interior lighting keeps blowing. It also knocks out the alarm, keyfob and windows.

An auto spark told us we need to look at the pneumatic control unit, apparently located in the rhs recess in the boot. He said it could be damp.

Anyone shed any light, please?

Don't know your model, but presumably he's referring to the remote boot release mechanism? Locate this and unplug power feed. Fuse still blows??

No, sorry to be vague (I didn't ask for Haig...)

It is a unit that controls the C Locking & EW. It is pneumatic in the sense that it uses air to control the CL & EW systems.

The same fuse keeps blowing on my Skoda Octavia , which is the same platform as the golf.

I have yet to find out why it keeps doing it.

I used to think the same about Skoda's until I bought my VRS.
I love it - excellent value and performance for the money. I can put up with the P**s taking :D

Was thinking of Sparkodia Octavious himself -- SecureSpark to the unwashed !! ;)

Im presuming your Golf is a 2001 model? If so the the fuses are blowing for a reason, normally it will be a short in the circuit. The problem you have with your 2001 car is that the electrics run on something called "CAN", unfortunatley the car will need to be plugged into "VAGCOM" to identify the nature of the problem

If your car is a pre 98 then let me know the year and exact model and I will see if I can dig out a diagram

Is CAN the same as Skoda's BUS wiring system?

Scrub that question - I've just looked it up in the Octavia brochure, and it is.

No, it is a 2001 51 model. I have been told that control unit mounted in the boot is to blame, and it will need changing, but a non - VW dealer is mooting £250.00 for the unit alone, plus fitting. Then he says he'll have to take it to VW for "checking".

Hmmm.......

If that system goes wrong in my Octavia after August, I'm gonna be well peeed off!

Ideally what I need to do is find the unit on the VW, find the unit on the Octavia and swap them, if they are the same unit. That way, we can tell without the outlay whether it is the unit to blame or not.

But I can't understand the wiring. In the fusebox, the fuse that blows is listed as the interior lighting fuse. The interior lights have gone out, but also so has the alarm, the deadlocks, the remote fob and the EW's.

BTW we Skoda owners have the last laugh. We pay a fraction of the cost of VW or Audi products for the same bits screwed together in a much better fashion (see the JD power reliability survey). Think about it. X thousand taxi drivers cannot be wrong.

Plus, topdog has even more reason to smile - his rs's engine also makes an appearance in the Audi TT - and what did you pay for it? 12.5K?

Bigger laugh still when he looks, if ever, at his average speeds over a month or three ;) Get an comfy, oil burner, most time spent in queues or pointlessly racing to make up time which is lost forever ... At least do it in climate controlled, cheap to run, lounge like comfort !! :D :D
