I have a bespoke trailer which I purchased recently. It has 4 wheels on independent suspension units with the rear wheels unbraked. The front wheels are braked and 8" in diameter. They have 4 studs at 4" (100mm) PCD. I am trying to identify what vehicle the hubs came off so I can replace the drums and shoes etc., If anyone can help identify from the pictures attached I would be extremely grateful. Terry

They don't jump out at me.

But I'd like a better look at the brake shoes, might be able to identify them easier. If can identify them, the drum is likely to be related .

Also the depth of the shoes.

Thanks, I will take out the brake shoes tomorrow and get back to you, Cheers

I have added more pictures along with the 13" wheel which might help identify, assuming that was from the same donor vehicle as the hubs. I have noticed the rear drums are 9" diameter and the front 8" diameter, both have 4" PCD (100mm). Thanks for any help, Terry

Take the hub off and show us the brakes.

The early pictures show the hub off and the brakes of the 8" hub. I have attached a picture of the 9" rear brake shoes which may help, assuming they are off the same donor vehicle. Thanks, Terry

I know this doesn't answer your question but isn't that a strange trailer braking set-up?
Trailers are usually unbraked to 750kg mass & braked over that weight .. but I thought the regs. demanded that all wheels were braked.

nb. some of the new tandem axle 750kg units on sale have a scarily large load area for an unbraked trailer, I can see many being overloaded.

I believe that's true. Many years ago, I had a braked boat trailer which snaked badly, and I thought I'd try adding an extra pair of wheels. As the brakes on it were obviously up to the job, I just added a pair of unbraked hubs, but I did get a talking-to from a traffic cop (this is going back the best part of 30 years now), about them all needing to be braked.

That is interesting & makes sense. I do have the facility to make all hubs braked once I identify the origin of the original 8" & 9" hubs. As I will need to refurbish the internal shoes, springs etc., Thanks, Terry

I don’t suppose you can ask the trailer supplier, Terry?
Those are typical Bosch / Girling rear brakes but you could spend your life tracking them down.
To me, they look like they might be from a Vauxhall Cavalier or similar product of that age that didn’t use the fully cast drum.
You can of course get the shoes re- lined.
I don’t recognise that rim at all.

That picture is definitely vauxhall type.

But the drum looks very deep, so possibly the van rather than the car. Astra is possible. Cavalier , estate maybe, too

I’d be interested to see how the handbrake cables connect to the draw bar......how the cable lengths are dealt with in particular.
