A day in the life of.......

Whats everybody done today? I've had a shocker really.

Drove 2 hrs from Derby to Worcester to (so i was lead to believe) double up with another engineer and carry out (i assumed) an all day job. Arrived with no one on site, rang said engineer who was on another totally different site working .

Rang office only to be told it was a mistake on their part and it was in fact just a 1 man job, thing is the other engineer had the parts on his van , had to drive 1hr 10 mins back up north to Coventry to collect the parts and then back 1hr 10mins to Worcester, completed the job and then drove back 2hrs back to Derby.

Once home i fired up me laptop to check tomorrows diary and its worse than today.

Set off from home, pick up 11 DG units from glass shop, 1 hr 30mins to doncaster and fit 1 dgu, drive 30mins to other job in Donny and fit 4 more, from there go to Grimsby which is probably an hour and fit another dgu, this is just the AM jobs, after Grimsby i drive to Mablethorpe to complete an insurance report on some rotten window frames, after that while still in Mablethorpe go and fit the remaining 5 dgu's, then while on the way home to Derby i need to stop in Lincoln and measure 5 blown dgu's and look at a leaking conservatory roof..........oh and complete the report for the insurance company before a 2hr + drive from there.

I went to a village a few miles away, drained the system and fitted a new Motorised Valve. Unblocked the cold feed and re-wired the new Honeywell Valve in. From there, I priced a new boiler & cylinder change. Then I went on to do a CP12 in my home town.

Then, at about 2pm I repiped a gas supply that was leaking, and got home at 6pm.

Nowt exciting about that to be honest.

When I worked for a shopfitting company, one job was,, (Previous day's end) Load up 7.5tonne lorry with shopfitting units etc.
(The Day) Get up at 4:30 am, Pick up lorry. Drive to Hinckley from Manchester. Pick up more units from another manufacturer. Drive to Bristol. Find Howdens in Bristol to pick up 3 lengths of worktop. Find place in Bristol where they all want dropping off. (told there were plenty of people to help unload the lorry) Drive back to Manchester with said lorry.Park up and drive home in my car to Derby.

What actually happened.. Got up at 4:30 am to find gates to where the lorry was parked locked. I had been given a key which didn't fit the lock. Tried phoning several people who promised to sort it out. 6:00am, finally someone arrives with key to open gates. Set off after all lorry checks. Go about 3 miles then realise the heater isn't working (pull over and put coat back on). Arrive at Hinckley,,, 2hrs until units will be completed and about half hour to load.
Drive to Bristol.. About an hour driving round to find Howdens, another half hour to load. Drive in circles for an hour trying to find the place I'm supposed to deliver to. (even managed to clip a parked car )
Manage to find the place. Only me and one other person there to unload lorry by hand (several units had been assembled and put on using a fork lift truck) Finally unloaded, I set off back to Manchester. Arriving there at about 10:30pm. Locked lorry up got in my car and drove back to Derby, Just in time for last orders at the local 11:50pm.

Boy was I glad to get home.

Up at 7, at Uni for 9, left at 5 past, to the bank to arrange an appointment to change my account type. Nice walk home in the sun.

Tried to fix my desktop computer (it's not been used for months, the HDD was removed and stored seperately, put it back in yesterday, click of death , which can apparently sometimes be caused by a faulty PSU). Thought about trying to install an OS to a USB drive, except the CMOS battery has now gone and I can't get into the BIOS anymore , so ordered a new one. Have also bought a small HDD from fleaBay to see if that's any good, failing that I'll have to test the PSU.

Spent the rest of the day watching TV, browsing the internet and moping because I hate not being able to fix something.
