A disabled man who starved to death after his benefits were wrongly stopped is the latest in a long line of fatalities that can be linked to failings and deliberate policy decisions by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Worse still is the cover-up; the only reason the story has come out is that DNS was contacted by Alison Turner, the partner of Mr Graham’s son, who questioned the DWP at the inquest and has fought for justice for him since the discovery of his death.

I wonder if this story will appear in the Daily Mail or the Telegraph

No doubt some people on here would describe him as a 'benefit scrounger'

Things are getting worse. Was reading today about a disabled man who was not allowed on a bus. He has an amputated leg. Comments on the story included people saying "he can drive, so get off the bus" and "he still plays golf so can't be that disabled".

Hatred, xenophobia, racism, homophobia all increasing that the moment. Although, some people will be quick to ignore the stories and stats and deny it.

all due respect , but I dont quite see what Auschwitz has to do with it ??

who ever is responsible in the assesmant dept should be taken to task over the affair.

sack em , confiscate there pension pot ecft ect

personally I would go further and give em a smack in the mouth as well

What i cant understand is how these for profit contractors who carry these work capability assessments haven't been hit by class action lawsuits by people they have damaged
The assessment model on which their reports are based on is a version of a model which has been outlawed in America.
The Insurance company Unum has had to pay 100s millions of dollars to American claiments they denied benefits to.
When you have physiotherapists and ex nurses assessing people with complex medical conditions then you are going have problems.

An enquiry was held after the death of the man shown in Vinty's pic.

It was found that the rules laid down by the Conservative government had been correctly applied.

"Stephen Smith, 64, who had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis and an enlarged prostate that left him in chronic pain, made headline news earlier this year. Shocking pictures showed him emaciated in hospital with pneumonia as his weight dropped to six stone, leaving him barely able to walk.

He failed a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) work capability assessment in 2017, which meant that his employment support allowance (ESA) payments were stopped. Instead, he was told to sign on to receive a £67 a week jobseeker’s allowance, visit the jobcentre once a week and prove that he was looking for work."

The blame does not attach to the people who will be sacked if they don't follow the rules.

But to the people making the rules.

 than he should be taken to task over the caper , if he has caused the deaths

simple as that ,

he can share a cell with his underlings

never cared for the bloke any way , be** end imho

"An investigation into the treatment of a man who was denied benefits despite being seriously ill and weighing 38kg (6st) before his death has found the Department for Work and Pensions “followed policy”.

The internal DWP review ordered by Amber Rudd found that the department missed “crucial safeguarding opportunities” but that “policy guidance was followed” in Stephen Smith’s case.

Smith, 64, from Liverpool, had a range of debilitating illnesses including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis and an enlarged prostate, and used a colostomy bag.

His death was reported in April, months after he was forced to get a pass to leave hospital to fight a decision by the department to deny him of crucial benefits.

Smith, who could barely walk, was deemed fit for work after a work capability assessment in 2017, which meant his employment support allowance (ESA) payments were stopped."
