A Question of Symmetry.

The door opening would be 780mm about 31 inch to have the side panels matching each other.

Looks good, as I say the only issue is if you want the fake glazing I suggested you'll need an unconventional installation technique.

Done badly it could look worse than nothing.

An expensive porch or a cheap pot plant would be my two options. Anything in the middle sounds a bit botchy.

Porches are great. You don't lose all the heat out of the hallway when you open the door and get somewhere to keep the shoes.

Possibly a bit narrow for a main entrance when you account for the frame - I'd hack off the plaster on the nib as much as possible and make the right hand panel (from outside) a little bit narrower - amount depending on you eye and level of OCD - I reckon with mine I could overlook about 50mm.

Thank you for you continued help and interest.

I'm going to have a look in the loft to see what's above the brickwork, I don't think there's anything, but removing the left side bricks would cause another job inside the hall where the Gas & Electric meters are.

Don't be too hung up on symmetry - that can often equate to boring.

You need to break up the panel of brickwork (visually not physically) and don't need to replicate the other side of the door.

So simple things like a medium potted plant and say a street number on a plaque above will divert the eye.

I would not be drastically altering the brick panel or hiding it unless you really can't sleep at night and it's an anxiety thing.

Thanks Woody, I’m as far away from anxious as you can imagine :) I don’t think we do anxiety in the mining villages of South Yorkshire :)
