ALL politicians these days are all wanna-be celebrities. In it for their own fame. Sadly, it's the nature of modern society with social media and influencers etc, etc.

Were that the truth, you'd be able to name many more than I suspect you can.

However, the country is ruled by the government of the party that has won power.

A party that has just won power by the vagaries of FPTP is not likely to want to change the rules to make it harder for them to win such power again

Not unlike Trump's shouting for paper ballots, on the day only. Let's see if he ever mentions it again. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
