I have to replace the siphon diaphragm on a wc. Naturally the wing nuts are totally corroded and there is not enough room to get a small hacksaw on one side due to the bath being in the way. Plan B, remove the wc complete, only to find that the pan is screwed in with four screws (rather than the normal two) and they are more rusted than the wing nuts. Any ideas how to get around this other than introducing the special tool (A sledge hammer) troublesome

Pan screws, at least, should be brass, not steel!
If all the screws are corroded past the point where they can be moved, you might as well bite the bullet and get a new WC - it might well be cheaper overall than messing about with the one you have.

If you HAVE got some potential movement on the whole thing and CAN remove the screws holding the back of the cistern onto the wall, GENTLY rocking the whole thing side to side MIGHT loosen the floor screws a bit. BUT if the spigot is connected directly to a cast-iron soilpipe, your only solutions are remove the screws or scrap the thing.

You might be able to drill out the heads of the screws. Start off with a small drill in the centre of the screw head and work up in stages until the head falls off the screw (or the pan cracks  )
