i might be worth finding out what roof pitch you have because as people have pointed out the roof pitch will determine what gauge you need. If your roof pitch is below 25 degrees you should have the battens spaced at 282 mm top to top giving you 100mm headlap on the tiles

The ridges look like he pointed them up using his c*ck, the mortar looks like a bricklayers 6-1 mix(too sandy) and the flashings are left short and messy.

Timbo you need to email the guy who did the work the link to this thread so he can have a good read through it and then set up a meeting together about what is going to be done.
I've given him a list and he is coming next week
1) He is re-doing valley with wider lead flashing
2) Adding sufficient flashing to the chimney area
3) Relaying the ridge that adjoins my neighbours property that doesn't look like it has a sufficient bed of mortar
4) replacing all tiles that are broken & that have damaged channels
5) Making sure tiles are firmly shunted against each other. The independent roofer who examined it pointed out the tiles running down next to the ridge were not quite shunted up next to each other as well as they could be.
Dont know why he doesnt install a bonding gutter instead, it will look much better.
Just to update you all.
He came back and replaced a few tiles.
I gave him the list of faults, and he said scaffolding would come. After 3 weeks it didn't, so I sent him a letter telling him to make good or I would pursue legal action after the 26/11/10.
He came round today and told me his team were no longer working for him and that he had no money to repair the roof.
It seems 2 of the non-regular guys he employed had been walking over the roof to get to the rear of the property. Alastair, you were pretty spot on there.
I appreciate all your input. I will probably take him to court anyway, even if all I get out of it is a ccj against him.
