I have no idea about modern trains, ours still use steam, and our max speed is 16 MPH so the crash on our line would equate to full speed. So what speed the modern train travels at not a clue, he should have been stopped at the passing point, so what ever went wrong did so well before the passing point, and not a clue how steep that bit is, we have I think the steepest bit
As far as I am aware only one we have had was the Wasp, a personal carrier. And it seems that was operator error, so now very restricted as to who can operate it. However it is not so long ago the older personal carrier crashed, it seems the wooden wheel failed causing it to derail, likely will never be used again, I know it happened at the gala, and one person broke their arm, I feel it should have never been used, and should have just been in the museum, I had been told not to fix it, as if I did someone may try and use it, someone clearly did fix it.
So now need to add the 5th accident to the list on Wikipedia. This it seems not counted as a accident, she it seems said she did not realise the railway was still used.
and yes going down the bank needs care, specially now as it stops at Ravens Square so there is no flatter bit to stop after the bank should anything run away.Golfa Bank is a particularly steep bank on the railway. The bank is nearly a mile at 1 in 29, which in its day, was the steepest section of the Cambrian Railways worked by passenger trains and is still a challenging climb. The line travelling up the slope is curvy, to make the climb easier. Golfa summit is 630 ft above sea level, meaning the locomotives have to travel from about 350 ft above sea level at the bottom of Golfa Bank, equal to climbing 280 ft in 1.5 miles. The locomotives had to be built specifically to manage the bank, due to its steepness.
