I need to take an old internal porch wall light down and replace it with two other wall lights.

How do I do this?

There's no earth terminal on these lights either.

You'll need some sort of box to terminate the cables.

Are you putting two lights close together?

The new lights are probably class 2 and dont require an earth.

Is this OK? https://www.screwfix.com/p/debox-24a-in-line-junction-box-50-x-102-x-28-5mm-white/8692h

I'm trying to find something slimline as it would be surface mounted - do you suggest anything?

The lights will be about 1m apart.

I don't know what look you are going for, maybe some galv conduit might look good but maybe not.

Is this right?

On the current light the live seems to go to the neutral and vice versa. Why is that?

Connected wrong in the first place probably

The wiring looks OK.

These lights are going in the porch, either side of the existing position?

Is the ceiling plasterboard and can you get above it?

Just wondered if you could conceal a junction box up there and run the cables out of sight, then pop them out just above each light position.

Yes, the lights are going in the porch, either side of the existing position. I’ll be putting some match board cladding up so I can hide the cables behind.

It’s a timber ceiling, but I’m wanting to put some insulation in it so I’ll be able to get a junction box up there.

Then you cannot run the cables exactly in the locations as shown in your diagram. Concealed cables must run in the recognised zones.

PS will your junction box still be accessible when you have put up your cladding?

Good point. I’ll surface mount the cables on top of the cladding.

I was going to see I could put the junction box in the ceiling with a small access panel.
