Don’t waste your time or money. They’ll take your money and when you ask them for help and they find out your problems started before you joined, they’ll wash their hands of you. Happened to me years ago.

The solution is to fix the relationship with the boss. I suggested the book for good reason.

Any dismissal proceedings would not have happened, or started, before he joined (I'm assuming that he has not had any formal notification of poor performance).

Good Morning folks

I hope you're all well and many thanks indeed for your valuable advice.

I have been at the company for just over 18 months - it will be 2 years in June.

When HR gave me the letter confirming my new role and the 3 month probation, it did not mention the fact that I can go back to my old job if I don't pass the probation. Plus they now have a new person doing my old job. I presume this is going to be a big problem? Please advice.

The company has not supplied any training notes/ material, and the only notes I have are the ones I made while the line manger was showing me the different screens on the PC which I need to use in order to carry out the job tasks.

I am looking elsewhere for a new job, but would rather stay here (unless i get fired!).

I am also thinking of going self employed because I am a qualified bookkeeper but at present we are looking for a larger property and as some of you may know, mortgage lenders are quite reluctant to lend to self employed people.

I believe I do fit in with the rest of the team, but as most of you are probably aware, there is always office gossip and politics.

I will be reading the book by Dale Carnegie.

Any further advice from you kind folks would be greatly appreciated.

Did you apply/ask for the new role or were you just told you were going to be doing it?

I was originally employed as a credit controller with the company and passed their 3 month probation. I started in June 2017.

I asked if there were any further opportunities within the company, since I have accountancy qualifications, and the line manager spoke to the financial controller who had a brief chat with me. This was in August 2018. After the brief chat, the financial controller said I could start on this new role in October and HR confirmed in writing that I would be put on a 3 month probation for this new role.

I think that basically you are just going to hang on and hope - be nice, and do your work to the best of your abilities.

From what you have written I don't get the impression that they are trying to manoeuvre you out, but if they are then there is no legal bar to them doing it.

Well I'm certainly no employment lawyer, but putting you back on probation for simply changing roles in the company sounds, at best, harsh?

I think you are worrying over nothing.

You made a few mistakes, everyone does. If the mistakes were that bad your manager would have made time to either educate or ******* you.

Look forward to your meeting as a positive.

Hi Folks

I hope you're all well. Just to give you an update on my work situation:

My 3 month probation expired on Tuesday 15th, and my line manager has not mentioned anything about a review meeting, so I don't as yet know whether or not I have passed my probation! She has continued to give me work to do as normal.

However, she did mention on Wednesday the 16th of whether I will be bringing in cakes or samosas on my birthday, which is on 25th January.

I will continue to give you folks further updates, as and when.

Thanks for your responses, so far.
