I am starting to covert my double garage to living accommodation and one of the first jobs is to remove the roof as I am building over.

my current garage has socket points and lights , I guess I need to do something with these to protect them from the elements ??

yes.
turn off the power.
waterproof the sockets (cover them with taped over plastic.)
perhaps even remove all the electrics and redo it to the new build.

I concur with fp.
Not sure what the wiring arrangements are or whether the structure is attached or not, but the chances are you will be placing a greater load on the installation, so may well have to upgrade the supply cable(s).

Thanks guys yes the garage is attached and may be ripping everything out is the sensible approach.

Consider you may need power during the build. and putting an outside socket in the garage for the duration may be an idea.
