Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I’m not sure if anyone has any insight but any advice would be much appreciated.
I’m looking to have a 5KW aircon unit installed in my living room.

I’m torn between 2 units which are simililarly priced supply and fit at around £2500. Daikin slghtly more around £150 give or take:

Daikin - FTXJ50MW / (outdoor unit - RXJ50M)

Mitsubishi MSZ-LN50VG2-W / (outdoor unit - MUZ-LN50VG2)

From what I’ve read up, Daikin seems to be the market leader. I like both units. I like the fact the Mitsubishi unit has a thermal sensor which detects body detects body heat and adjusts the temperature accordingly to your needs and has the feature to distribute are away from people. Whereas the Daikin unit only has infrared sensor which detects if people are in the room but not body temperature but allow redirects the flow of air.

The install for the unit would be above our in heads of where our sofa is lined up so having a unit which redirects the flow of air is a must.

Does anyone have any of these installed in their homes at all and which one would you recommend?

Any F-Gas registered engineers amongst us?

Hello - I was an air-conditioning installer/service engineer for 11 years (I don't do it anymore).

There really isn't much between them - Daikin/Mitsi Electric were both the market leaders when I worked in the industry, and importantly you can easily get spare parts quite easily for both parts and should expect a reasonable warranty period. You'll be fine with either, and will likely not even notice the gimmicky add-ons (such as detecting body heat......ultimately, they all work on a return air temperature sensor which works with the set-point (what you've asked for) governing whether it provides cooling or not. As well, a suitably sized unit will take account of the heat load created by anticipated bodies in the room).

As long as your calculations of unit capacity are correct (as in kw of cooling required) - you can't go wrong with either!

I'd not want one in that exact location from the noise point of view as much as any potential for draughts in operation. Airflow direction is invariably adjustable within limits on all such indoor units.

They are all quiet but none are silent.
Have the potential installer(s) all said that is the only/best location for the indoor unit?

I have a Mitsubishi unit of about 5kw outside and 2 units indoors I believe they are about 2 & 2.5 from memory. Happy with both units.
