Airflow Icon Bathroom Extractor - Any good?

I will be fitting it at tbe foot of tbe bath roughly where zone 1 ends and zone 2 begins.

Needless to say, what matters is whether it is in Zone 1 or (totally) in Zone 2.

You speak sense John, thanks. Guess I shoul play safe and get the 12v model.

You need to be aware that while the 12v fan model itself is rated for the zone 1 upwards - the power supply unit (transformer) is not so rated and must be fitted outside the zones. As per...

"iCON Domestic DC Fans have IPX 4 rated housings, they are double-insulated and are suitable for fitting in Zone 1 or 2 of bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, utility rooms and inside shower cubicles as defined in Section 701 BS7161:2008 (IEEE Wiring Regulations, 17th Edition ). They also comply with the 2010 Building Regulations, Approved Document F. The power supply unit, supplied with the fan, must be fitted outside of Zones 0, 1 and 2. It is usually installed outside the room."

My interest was in whether or not any manufacturer's of 230V ones are 'brave enough' to say that they're suitable for Zone 1.

Xpelair state on their website that their DX100 fans are suitable for installation in zone 1.

Actually, Ive just checked the Icon instructions for the 230v models and it states this on page 2:

"The iCON Fan has an IP X4 rating housing and is suitable for mounting in Zone 1 or 2 in bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, utility rooms and inside shower cubicles as defined in Section 701 BS7161:2008 (IEEE wiring standards, 17th Edition ). They also comply with the latest Building Regulations."

Good point. I can get the transformer fitted in the loft above.

If both their 12v & 230v models are Zone 1 safe, would one give any advantage over the other?
