a neighbour's DA system abacus alarm needs a replacement battery.
The panel is only a little keypad no bigger than 10cm by 15 cm.
Will this be the part that hold the battery or will there be a bigger box somewhere that I have to find, had a quick look an can't see any other boxes.

There will be a much larger box somewhere. I have been to a house where it is under the return step on the stairs

Thanks I thought they must be as you would not get a very big battery in the keypad.

You'll need to find the master box. Try in the loft, or the airing cupboard.

Follow some of the alarm wires, They will lead you too it!
Be prepared for the alarm to go off when you remove the front panel as you'll trip the tamper contact.

Maplins do a good range of replacment batteries.

Sounds like it could be an ADI alarm, if you isolate the mains suppy first, when the cover of the box is removed the alarm will sound, if you can get someone to help you, they can type the code in, but not press reset, this will silence the alarm and leave it in tamper mode. You can then procede to replace the battery without deafening yourself and pi$$in off the neighbours.
