Also RCD Tripping

Hi John,

Sorry, I made a mistake, when I said replacing the RCD, I actually meant replacing the CU and the RCBO's sound like a great idea.

Regards

Mark

P.S. We will see tonight if what has been done is sufficient to prevent the RCD tripping.

"MEM" is one very good brand (they are very popular for Industrial equipment and some of the parts (including RCBOs) are interchangable), there are several others. "MK" used to be very good but some people say it has been going downhill. Crabtree is good .

A quick question which I forgot to ask teh sparky. How do you check an appliance for earth leakage? Is it a simple test with a multimeter or something more complicated?

Earth leakage will show up on an insulation test N-E or P-E using an insulation tester which applies 500Volts DC

Des, thanks for letting me know how they test. Well, it's 10.40 pm and so far no tripping. I really hope it's all solved.

When the CU does get replaced, I think I'll definitely go for RCBO's. I looked at a MEM board on the net and seems great, very adaptable. Thanks RCBOMan.....err John

Hi all,

Well, it's now been several weeks and no more problems, so appears everything is now O.K.

A big thank you again to everybody who contributed!
