Am I mad? Gas boiler or ASHP to heat pool

Just received a £24k quote to replace x2 IVT AX-09 ASHP's with some 8.5kw equivalent pumps.

These service a couple of heat exchangers for our pool. One of the ASHP's recently developed a power fault and apparently no more parts available and apparently I can't replace one, I have to replace both despite the other one working fine. They are 14 years old now, so hey ho.

We have a GSHP with a Vaillant back up gas boiler for central heating and hot water.

I'm sure the £24k quote is massively punching but if its not, surely I should just (if I can?) make use of our backup boiler, connect to the heat exchangers and heat the pool that way. Yes, not as efficient as some new heat pumps and not as "green" but by my simple man maths, still quids in doing that and paying more for heating the pool than £24k for a couple of replacement heat pumps?

Am I mad, stupid or both?

The problem with a heat pump, it can be 150% efficient or 550% efficient, so much depends on how well the job is done. We have the same with a gas boiler, but between 75% and 95% is not as noticeable.

But down to running cost, if the fuel bill is £1000 a year, and the change will reduce that by half, and likely to last 10 years, then the maximum that is worth spending is £5000.

However, likely some other considerations. My heating is slow to respond, so if I upgraded, I could reduce response times as well. But I have been looking at changing electric supplier, and working out cost of electric seems a major problem.

That price is utter nonsense.

An 8kW output ASHP for a pool would be in the £1k to £2k range for most normal examples.

Also sounds like BS. Might be that they share a single controller and that controller may need to be replaced, but in terms of price that's still vastly cheaper than replacing a working ASHP.
