AMOLED - Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode.
This is apparently the latset development in Screen Technology, almost getting to Paper thin Scrrens and from what I have read, which is not very much, the picture quality and screen blackness is far in advance of the LED Backlight screen.
Does anyone have any idea when these TV's will be in the Market place?
I can find very little on Google searches, but it begs the question as to whether it is worth waiting for them to be on sale rather than replace my present Plasma TV Now!

Fantastic technology..and already in a lot of smaller devices such as mobile phones...but a long way from being commercially competitive for larger TV screens.

LG showed a 15" recently. They pegged the price if that at around £2200. No, that's not a misprint - Two Thousand Two Hundred of our English Pounds Sterling for a 15" telly. And the 31" LG...well if you have to ask then you can't afford it.

It is said that the industry is chasing a date of 2015 for "price competitive" AMOLED 30" TVs. The question is will we be interested in just 30" by then, and what price will LCD and LED be down to, and of course what screen sizes will we be buying for our living rooms? Will 65" be the norm?

If you are looking for a new TV anytime up to the next 5 years then I'd be surprised if AMOLED makes it on to your shopping list unless your name is Abramovich

Thanks Chris,
That has been very imformative, so I reckon I will be buying a 55" Samsung LED backlight job. DO you have any opinions on these.
Thanks so much for the help and advice.

I guess you already know that LED is just about the back light. So it's really an LCD TV with an LED back light rather than the more usual florescent tubes.

Have a look at www.hdtvtest.co.uk and see if they've reviewed the particular model you're interested in. As a general guide to the brand I like the design and I think they have a lot of bell & whistles.

My only concern is reliability seems poorer than the Sonys and Panas of this world. Some of that might be down to volume of sales of course: more sold equals more people with probs. But there are recurring issues with power supplies - in particular the capacitors in the power supplies - that suggest cost cutting has gone just the wrong side of lean. It's the same with LG too. Buy from John Lewis with a 5 year warranty, or go to Richers and pay for their 5 yr warranty.
