An off shoot of the Reparations thread..

The argument for reparations from the countries affected is not a lottery style payment to individuals, but recognition that western countries who exploited the human and natural resources of the countries affected are morally responsible for the impact of global warming on their economies. Its making a case for economic support.

They were given economic support, we gave them railways, modern transport, roads, communications, a political system, and much more - we gave them a modern civilisation.

Im not sure i buy the argument that says the british empire did all this for anyone but itself, the infrastructure we put in was only to make stripping the assets of the country so much easier. Who are we to say our culture was more civilised than theirs? Apart from cricket which they play better than us

They were backward countries, generally not much more civilised than the stone age. Yes we, took some of their assets, but in the process we gave them all of the things I mentioned, plus giving many of them a job, and a purpose in life. After we left, once isolated countries, were able to export, earn money. India, took on many of the UK's production jobs, and exports, after we left.

Generally, I think the exchange was fair..

You ignore the chaos we left with Pakistan and India.

How they should all be so grateful for our involvement.

Not everybody wants to be westernised. We can't see that, but we have a viewpoint, just as others do.

All were once way ahead of the UK, but were in a state of total complete decay, at the time the UK became involved. We gave them modern, industrialised methods, and all that went with it.
Stone age, you said.

By "became involved" you mean "invaded"

A bit of a myth all this stuff about Asia being backward.
In Victorian times China was the worlds largest economy and richest country.
India was the 2nd largest economy.

Things only started to go downhill when the Westerners arrived.
China's decline started with the opium wars which were catastrophic to its economy.

Good point.

We forced illegal drugs, drug addiction and economic collapse onto a highly developed society in China.

I wonder if the millions of displaced Palestinians and their descendents living in refugee camps around the Middle East, would be deserving of some sort of reparation for the loss of their property and deaths of family members.

It's time you looked up the Hamas charter.

Relying on sources prepared by the racist and genocidal Israeli propaganda machine will not bring you truth.

I couldn't find goggles page "% of Israelis who support destruction of Palestine"

Where is it?

In the meantime,

"What our medical teams have witnessed on the ground throughout this conflict is consistent with the descriptions provided by an increasing number of legal experts and organisations concluding that genocide is taking place in Gaza"

"Israeli forces have on numerous occasions prevented essential items such as food, water, and medical supplies from entering the Strip, as well as blocked, denied, and delayed humanitarian assistance, as documented in the report. Some 1.9 million people—90 percent of the entire population of the Strip—have been forcibly displaced, many forced to move multiple times."
