An off shoot of the Reparations thread..

Maybe we should okay some financial reparations, on the understanding the leaders of these countries need to open up their personal finances and those of their government to a truly thorough fully independent assessment and review carried out by western experts. Then, if anything untoward is uncovered, say along the lines of monies obtained through corruption, then every single penny has to be recouped and paid directly to their citizens.

Perhaps start with all the charity collections, they make in the UK.

Not that many years ago, Germany, near completely destroyed much of Europe, and caused millions of deaths, and for a second time, did they, could they ever make reparations for that?
They paid billions in reparations, but of course no country could pay up in full...

Thus silly argument number two from you...

And bear in mind it is countries that pay reparations, not individuals...

Sure it is taxpayer's money, but maybe it ought to be that the reparations on the whole should come from those who gained?

Like the monarchy ;)

And have you ever bought a PC that was IBM based?

Well they made their main start by providing hitler with a card reading system that identified the Jews...

They have paid billions in reparations decades later, without of course accepting 'liability'...

Would you have preferred that they hadn't coughed up?

Akin to unearthing expense fraud amongst the members of parliament in the UK?

Or similar dodgy dealings by an unelected head of state in the UK?

So where do you suggest these 'western experts' can be found?

It was only a token, compared to the true cost, of the damage, the lives ruined, and the lives lost. Not that I'm complaining, it was, what it was, and in the past - but not nearly so much in the past, as those seeking reparations, for centuries even further back. All complete, total nonsense.

It was, what it was, the world has moved on since. The difference is, some see a nice little earner, and so want to jump on the band wagon.

In the west.

And we're not seeking reparations, are we?

Trust me, if we start paying out on a grand scale, it'll never stop, it'll never be enough.

And why should UK citizens pay? Even if they found some miraculous way for payments to go 100% to their citizens without their government playing 'one to you, five to us', why should UK citizens be sending money to citizens of these countries? Many here are already up against it financially.

These countries need to man up and start building their own socioeconomic success stories, instead of asking for hand outs.

What about reparations for the Post Office scandal? The entire thing is in current memory, yet many of those who suffered, are being allowed to die, before getting even a fraction of what they lost..
