It took me almost 30 years and 4 trips to macaroni factories to convince my wife spaghetti does not grow on trees. I still haven't convinced money doesn't grow on trees either.

I always enjoy telling people about the edition of the Oxford English Dictionary that didn't include the word 'gullible'. This one is as old as the hills but still catches 'em out.

the sweetest one though is surely that winston churchill's "we will fight them on the beaches" radio broadcast was spoken by an actor because winston (who drank a bottle of scotch a day) was too drunk.
