Capping is thin and flimsy, and does not provide protection.

Conduit etc is thick and sturdy - you might argue that a brand new bit on a powerful SDS drill might go through it, but a nail wouldn't, nor a screw, nor a bit that was a little dulled, or on an ordinary hammer drill.

With respects ban, the regs. say, 'or'; not, 'and'. Don't they?

Indeed they do, but in this case they are an OR to earthed conduit, trunking or ducting, not capping - it read to me as though the use of capping instead of those was being suggested, which brings it ito the class of something providing mechanical protection.

As ever, the regs are badly worded, and as ever if you come up against a jobsworth Inspector don't be surprised if he won't accept capping.....
