The answer is more guns,

Give the teachers guns then they can shoot any potential threats..

Having stricter gun laws is a silly idea...

They have rights, it's in the constitution...

Long live trump.... Yee haw!!!!

Nut job Americans will never learn.. how many more innocent children who still have so much to live for need to die to make them wake up... Follow the money trail and you'll find your answer why nothing changes..

You're wrong.

Switzerland has a higher per capita gun ownership and Canada is comparable to the US. Neither have the lax gun laws of the US or the rate of gun violence.

Totally wrong.....and I quote...

"Though Swiss gun ownership remains fairly high for Europe — there are about 27.5 guns for every 100 people in Switzerland — compared to the United States, it’s relatively low — for every 100 Americans, there are about 120.5 guns.

The politician for the area where this shooting happens is one of the ones that block gun ownership changes. The more arns aspect has already been mentioned - arm and train teachers.

The NRA are a powerful lobby groups mostly associated with one side of their house. Some of the things they say are correct - background checks wont help. Depends on what that involves. Licensing allows checks on that and other aspects to be refreshed from time to time. It's costly though. The UK have firearms officers who even check that guns can be stored securely. The other control is the guns that can be sold to the public.Cost doesn't just relate to buying the gun and the license is needed before one can be bought. Any gun owned has to be registered on the certificate as well. The license may also restrict where a gun can be used. Rather different to the USA and that varies from state to state.

The number of guns held by the public in the USA is misleading. Even a serious user is likely to own more than one even here.

:( And underfunding has been found to cause a certain amount of laxness on uk gun controls. Not the basics of the licensing system though. That would come as culture shock in the USA. Some changes here came about following Dunblane. 16 dead kids, 1 dead teacher and 15 injured. That started the control of handguns.

Arming teachers? The same teachers they wanted to be sacked for suggesting that humans might have more than one kind of 'normal' relationship?

Those statistics are pointless. It could be that of those 100 Americans, 2 may have 60 guns each and the other 98 not own a gun.

America: where people dumb enough to vote for Trump also are allowed to own a gun.

what could possibly go wrong……

Please do some research before you make wild assumptions.

Approximately just over 40% of American houses have guns in them......Link

There should be a ‘the dumbest statement of the week’ thread. congratulations , you won .
Thanks. Although a close second was the statement that cars, vans and kitchen knives are just as dangerous as machine guns.

How many people are killed in the UK (or the US ) by vehicles and knives compared to machine guns, including accidents?
I don't know that number. But it was reported today that more US children are killed every year by guns than car accidents. In a country that is ruled by the car that is really shocking.

BBS reported it too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61192975
And ends with a reminder that not all gun deaths are murders, many are accidents. I recall a case a few years ago of a toddler who pulled a gun
from his mums bag and shot her dead. And there was a similar case in the last couple of years, of a toddler killing their parents during Zoom calls.

This can't happen under UK gun law. We still have guns though, we even have Olympic gold medal winning shooters. We just manage to use guns for sport, hunting, pest control etc without killing loads of people every week. That's why rules are sometimes a good idea.

Thought I'd have a look at what they see an assault gun is in the USA. Sounds mad to me. Standard military issue.

The self loading part of a rifle SLR. Cock the gun once and each time the gun is fired the next bullet is loaded ready to fire. They call this semi auto. Then add a switch that adds burst mode. It fires several bullets instead of one. Maybe add another position on the switch and it will fire for as long as the trigger is pressed and there are bullets in the magazine. A machine gun really. Encourages a magazine to hold as many bullets as possible. I can't see any real sporting use for that.

Then do the same with a pistol and call it semi auto without the switch. Usually called an automatic. Add the switch and they have been called machine pistols.

There have been various bans Not clear which ones and areas are enforced but a judge ruled on one that a particular assault rifle was perfect for home defence and militia to overturn a ban. Sounds more like an arm race between owners to me. It seems that some one in California needs a special certificate that few or none actually get to own one.

They do seem to rule out grenade launchers ;) but not entirely sure.

No need for civilians and guns. Well, various styles of shooting are an olympic sport. A pretty exacting one. Illegal guns in the UK cause way way more problems than legally owned ones.

How many people do you know sneak a car into a classroom and start killing pupils? If you wanted to kill as many people as possible and you had the choice of a knife or gun, which would you choose? People die from tooth brushes but don't reach for them when going on a mass killing spree.

Stupid argument. Stupid poster. Ban guns - home protection my arse.
