Are these electric soldering iron/pliers any good?

Seems like a neat idea in principle (good for in-situ work) but would be keen to hear they actually work.

They do work, but are incredibly slow.
Only really of use where flames are not permitted.

We have a set at home, dunno where as not tried using them in years. I found that when not holding a pipe the bits get very hot and it's very hard to keep them bright and tinned. Then when you apply them to the pipe, you get poor contact and it takes ages to heat up.

Wouldn't recommend them, unless (as flameport says) you can't use a flame for some reason.
