I bought a krone tool but have not yet used it.

This morning an engineer came round and replaced the thing in picture 1, with (by the description given over the phone by my housemate) an NTE5B. However there is still no DSL available via the LJU in picture 3. He's had to go to work so couldn't try 4 or the test socket.

Update to follow this evening!

An NTE5B has been placed where the PSTN line jack box used to be.

We are with Be Broadband, however it is still not working, even through the test socket.

Is it at all true in me thinking that by using a phone without a filter, you should be able to in some respect 'hear' the ADSL coming down the line? i.e. a faint crackling or distortion of some sort, over the dial tone or on a quiet line test. Because our line seems to have nothing like that.

Every time I speak to Be, either on the phone or by writing via the tech support claim I have rebounding between me and them, I am only ever responded to by polish guys who seem very confused by the whole ordeal. Three times now they've waited a few days to respond to my queries, only to tell me to do the same test as before (check all sockets, check test socket, etc). Currently they are waiting for a reply to:

"Could you please perform the following:

First to connect the ADSL filter after this connect the phone and to confirm that you have a dial-tone and then connect your Bebox.

Also can you please check if you will receive a broad band in any of the sockets in he premises.

Please update us if there is still no DSL on your line. "

My question, aside from the one above about 'hearing' ADSL without a filter, is what should I do next? Be seem utterly confused by the ordeal, and it seems our internal wiring must now be fine. At least, the NTE5B unit should be able to handle digital information down the line, so I guess the problem must now lie with Be.

Yes, you should hear a hissing wheezing sound without the filter in...ring your service provider back and say you want to raise a customer complaint as these get looked at than just raising a fault...all the service providers have equipment in the local telephone exchange and I suspect that is where the fault is

BIG UPDATE

The internet is finally working.

Turned out it was the LLU tie pairs. I'm hoping to get a rebate off this month in which we've been charged for internet but haven't had any.

Thank you all for your help to date, it has been greatly appreciated. Thankfully I never had to use the krone tool I bought, as I probably would have buggered it right up if I had tried to use it.

You have been very patient with these frustrating ongoing problems, and I am very very thankful for the advice offered.

Thanks again guys!
